Chainguard has officially introduced five core Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service add-ons to the AWS Marketplace, strengthening secure infrastructure deployment for regulated industries. With this launch, the company enables organizations to access hardened, FIPS-validated container images directly within AWS-native environments, thereby simplifying compliance and reducing operational complexity.
As cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, particularly with AI accelerating vulnerability discovery, organizations face growing pressure to secure their Kubernetes environments. At the same time, nation-state actors are increasingly targeting software supply chains, making compliance and security more critical than ever. Against this backdrop, Chainguard’s latest offering delivers a timely solution for enterprises operating under strict frameworks such as FedRAMP and FIPS 140-3.
Notably, Chainguard now stands as the only third-party provider offering zero-known-CVE and FIPS 140-3 validated EKS add-on images through AWS Marketplace. This unique positioning allows organizations to seamlessly integrate secure components into their workflows without the burden of manual hardening or ongoing maintenance.
Previously, enterprises that required FIPS-validated container images had to choose between building custom integrations or adopting fully managed services. However, this often led to increased costs, complexity, or reduced control. Now, Chainguard eliminates this tradeoff by delivering a flexible, drop-in solution that aligns with AWS-native procurement and deployment practices.
“Organizations in highly regulated industries that need FIPS-validated container images for their EKS add-ons have faced a difficult tradeoff between custom hardening work and adopting a fully managed approach,” said Patrick Donahue, Senior Vice President of Product, Chainguard. “Chainguard’s EKS add-ons bring the same zero-known-CVE, FIPS-validated images our customers rely on into the AWS-native procurement path so security teams get what they need without slowing developers down.”
Furthermore, these newly launched add-ons provide a secure and developer-friendly pathway to managing Kubernetes infrastructure. The five core add-ons include kube-proxy, which manages network rules for service connectivity; CoreDNS, which handles cluster-internal DNS resolution; VPC CNI, which enables pod networking using AWS VPC-native IP addresses; EBS CSI, which supports Amazon EBS volume provisioning; and EFS CSI, which facilitates access to Amazon EFS file systems.
By integrating these solutions directly into AWS Marketplace, Chainguard ensures that organizations can adopt secure, compliant infrastructure without disrupting developer productivity. Consequently, enterprises can accelerate deployment cycles while maintaining strict adherence to security standards.
In conclusion, Chainguard’s move highlights a broader industry shift toward simplifying compliance and strengthening cloud-native security. As organizations continue to prioritize secure software supply chains, solutions like these are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Kubernetes security.
