Nerdio has announced a strategic technology alliance with Nutanix to help organizations accelerate their IT modernization efforts. Through this collaboration, both companies aim to simplify how enterprises transition from legacy virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) to more flexible, cloud-enabled environments.
As part of the partnership, Nerdio is extending its Nerdio Manager capabilities including desktop orchestration and Azure Virtual Desktop management to work seamlessly with the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP). Consequently, organizations can now modernize their VDI deployments more efficiently, regardless of whether their infrastructure is on-premises, in the cloud, or operating in a hybrid model.
Moreover, Nerdio has prioritized integrating NCP as the first hybrid Azure Virtual Desktop environment within its platform. The company also unveiled a private preview of its enhanced desktop orchestration and management capabilities during Nutanix .NEXT 2026. This move significantly enhances the administrative experience, especially for enterprises that require high-performance environments while maintaining flexibility across distributed systems.
Traditionally, organizations looking to upgrade their legacy VDI environments faced limited and often disruptive options. For instance, many had to fully migrate to Azure or shift to Azure Local environments, which required extensive application refactoring, data migration, and additional resource investments. As a result, these processes proved time-consuming and costly, particularly for enterprises that had already invested heavily in previous infrastructure upgrades to meet compliance and data sovereignty requirements.
However, this new alliance introduces a more streamlined path forward. By leveraging Nerdio Manager alongside Nutanix Cloud Platform, organizations can gradually transition to Azure Virtual Desktop while maintaining control over their existing infrastructure. In addition, they can manage desktop images on Nutanix AHV while benefiting from centralized orchestration and automation capabilities offered by Nerdio.
“Legacy VDI platforms were built on dependencies that make change expensive and difficult. The alliance between Nerdio and Nutanix alters the math entirely. We are focused on one thing: removing the friction of modernization,” said Scott Manchester, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Nerdio. “By automating administrative workflows and simplifying the management of your Windows Cloud journey, we’re ensuring that organizations can finally trade infrastructure headaches for operational simplicity and ongoing innovation.”
Furthermore, this partnership addresses a growing demand among enterprises seeking more efficient virtualization strategies. Businesses are increasingly rethinking how they deploy and manage virtual desktops, especially in hybrid and multi-cloud environments where agility and cost optimization are critical.
“Customers are rethinking virtualization deployments, and Nutanix has been enabling that transition with AHV and Nutanix Cloud Clusters. With Nerdio supporting Azure Virtual Desktop for hybrid scenarios, together we’re making it faster and easier for customers to adopt and deploy Microsoft technologies,” said Tarkan Maner, President and Chief Commercial Officer, Nutanix. “The result is a clear path forward for EUC teams to manage their VDI solutions through a single management console with the Nutanix Cloud Platform.”
Overall, the Nerdio–Nutanix alliance marks a significant step toward simplifying hybrid cloud adoption. By reducing complexity, minimizing disruption, and enabling seamless integration, both companies are positioning themselves as key enablers of next-generation enterprise IT modernization.
