IQM Quantum Computers has taken a major step in expanding its global footprint by delivering its full-stack 20-qubit quantum system to TOYO Corporation. This marks the first enterprise-grade quantum computer deployment in Japan, signaling a shift from research-driven exploration to real-world quantum adoption.

To begin with, the Radiance 20-qubit system will be deployed by the end of 2026 and made accessible through both on-premises and cloud environments. As a result, Japanese enterprises and research institutions will gain direct access to advanced quantum computing capabilities, enabling them to experiment, innovate, and develop practical use cases. Moreover, this deployment strengthens IQM’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region, where it has already established systems in South Korea and Taiwan.

Importantly, TOYO will operate the system with a clear focus on integrating quantum computing into existing high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. This integration is expected to accelerate hybrid computing models, where classical and quantum systems work together to solve complex problems more efficiently. At the same time, TOYO plans to play a key role in building a skilled workforce capable of supporting Japan’s ambitious quantum roadmap.

Japan has already positioned itself as a global leader in quantum innovation through significant public investment and clearly defined national targets. The country aims to reach 10 million domestic users of quantum technologies and generate 50 trillion yen in quantum-driven economic value by 2030. However, achieving these goals requires more than theoretical research. Therefore, initiatives like this deployment are critical in establishing real-world infrastructure and operational expertise.

Commenting on the announcement, Jan Goetz, CEO and Co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers, said: “Leading enterprises are building real quantum capabilities by owning the infrastructure, operating it, and growing with it. TOYO’s commitment to this approach represents an important step in realizing Japan´s national quantum strategy based on IQM´s leading quantum computing technology.”

In addition, Toshiya Kohno, Representative Director, President and CEO of TOYO Corporation, emphasized the strategic importance of quantum technology: “Quantum technology is an essential strategic field for future economic growth, especially for the new era of Japanese manufacturing. The competition for practical implementation such as integration with HPC, use-case development, and business talent development has already begun, moving beyond theory and research. With the cooperation of IQM, we will promote the social implementation of quantum technologies in Japan ahead of the world.”

Ultimately, this collaboration highlights a broader industry transition toward enterprise-ready quantum computing. As organizations move from experimentation to deployment, partnerships like IQM and TOYO’s are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of quantum-powered innovation.
