Lauren Cuyvers has joined Crowell & Moring as a partner in its Privacy and Cybersecurity Group, further expanding the firm’s capabilities in addressing complex global data protection and cybersecurity challenges. This strategic hire also strengthens the firm’s growing presence in its Brussels office, marking the third addition there in the past six months.
As regulatory frameworks across Europe continue to evolve rapidly, organizations increasingly require specialized legal expertise. In response, Crowell & Moring is enhancing its advisory capabilities by bringing in seasoned professionals like Cuyvers, who has extensive experience in incident response, regulatory compliance, enforcement, and litigation.
Cuyvers’ practice spans a wide range of industries, including aviation, energy, life sciences, and technology. Notably, she has worked with leading global companies in sectors such as social media, cloud computing, data centers, MedTech, software, and semiconductors. Moreover, her expertise covers key European regulatory frameworks, including the EU Data Protection Regulation (EUDPR), ePrivacy Directive, EU AI Act, EU Data Act, and the EU Health Data Space Regulation (EHDS).
At Crowell, she will focus on guiding clients through complex EU digital regulations, particularly in areas such as regulatory risk management, high-stakes investigations, crisis response, and cybersecurity certification. As a result, clients will benefit from more comprehensive and forward-looking legal strategies in an increasingly challenging compliance environment.
“Lauren’s experience in digital regulation and cybersecurity makes her an invaluable resource for our clients as regulatory frameworks continue to evolve at pace,” said Emma Wright, co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Group. “Her arrival further advances our ability to deliver comprehensive, forward-thinking counsel, integrating privacy, cybersecurity, and technology law globally.”
Before joining Crowell, Cuyvers worked at Sidley Austin, where she handled high-profile incident response matters involving regulations such as GDPR, NIS2, and DORA. In addition, she advised clients on emerging legislation like the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and supported complex, data-intensive transactions.
“Lauren is a highly regarded cybersecurity practitioner in Europe who will bring tremendous value to our global clients and our Brussels office,” said Kristof Roox, co-managing partner of Crowell’s Brussels office. “She is among a small group of lawyers with deep, specialized experience spanning cybersecurity, incident response and EU digital regulation. With cybersecurity a board-level priority for companies worldwide, Lauren’s arrival reflects our commitment to clients at the forefront of regulatory change.”
“Crowell & Moring to me exemplifies true leadership and a collaborative culture – qualities that clients increasingly value in their counsel, particularly in today’s complex environment,” said Cuyvers. “I’m excited to join Crowell at a time when cybersecurity and AI are reshaping how organizations operate. The firm’s combination of core practice areas, including IP, TMT, competition and government contracts, and its deep roots in DC and Brussels, make it an ideal platform to help clients navigate what’s next.”
Beyond her legal practice, Cuyvers is also an active contributor to the data privacy community. She serves on advisory and expert groups, including the Women Leading Privacy Advisory Board for the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and the European Data Protection Board’s Support Pool of Experts.
Overall, this appointment underscores Crowell & Moring’s continued investment in cybersecurity and privacy expertise as organizations navigate an increasingly complex global regulatory landscape.
