VyOS Networks has released a new customer success story showcasing how TextNow is leveraging its open-source network platform to build a flexible and scalable connectivity layer across its messaging partner ecosystem. TextNow, known for its free wireless service and app-based communication platform, depends heavily on stable VPN connections to integrate with a wide range of messaging partners. As partner requirements became increasingly diverse, the company needed a more adaptable solution to manage IPsec VPN tunnels, network address translation (NAT), and failover processes without being limited by proprietary networking hardware.

To address these challenges, TextNow adopted VyOS for its open-source architecture and strong support for VPN and networking capabilities. The platform enabled the company to design a more flexible partner connectivity framework that supports consistent onboarding while still allowing customization for individual partner requirements.

A key component of the deployment involved extending VyOS with custom scripting. These scripts automate VPN lifecycle management, enhance failover workflows, and improve operational consistency across deployments. This approach has provided TextNow with greater transparency and control over its network operations, making it easier for teams to manage connectivity at scale.

According to Santiago Blanquet, Chief Revenue Officer at VyOS Networks, the implementation reflects a broader shift in enterprise networking needs. He emphasized that modern infrastructure teams increasingly require flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly as connectivity demands evolve.

From TextNow’s perspective, the move away from rigid, vendor-controlled systems has delivered tangible benefits. Scott Krzyzowski, Senior Site Reliability Engineer at TextNow, noted that VyOS’s open-source nature allowed the team to overcome limitations typically associated with traditional networking solutions, particularly in VPN management and customization.

The deployment has resulted in improved flexibility for handling partner-specific requirements, more resilient VPN operations through enhanced failover logic, and reduced dependency on vendor constraints when troubleshooting or modifying configurations. As organizations continue to expand their ecosystems and integrate with diverse external partners, the demand for adaptable, software-defined networking solutions is growing. The collaboration between VyOS Networks and TextNow highlights how open-source platforms are increasingly being used to meet these evolving connectivity and scalability requirements.
