As vehicles become more digitally connected, ensuring trusted access to critical automotive systems is emerging as a key cybersecurity and safety priority.
OmniTrust has announced the expansion of its AutoAuth platform with the launch of the industry’s first Certified Tool and Technician Program. The initiative is designed to strengthen trust and verification across the automotive aftermarket, particularly for security sensitive services such as locksmithing and key programming. The AutoAuth Certified Program introduces a new framework to authenticate both the professionals performing the work and the tools they use.
The expansion comes at a time when modern vehicles rely heavily on digital systems, making unauthorized access a growing concern. As automotive security becomes more complex, verifying technician identity alone is no longer sufficient. OmniTrust’s approach addresses this gap by validating both the technician and the equipment involved in servicing vehicles, creating a more comprehensive trust model across the ecosystem.
According to David Sequino, President and Chief Executive Officer of AutoAuth, “AutoAuth was built to bring trust and verification to the automotive ecosystem. As the industry evolves, it’s not enough to know who is doing the work, we also need confidence in the tools being used. This program delivers both.” His statement highlights the need for end to end verification as automotive services increasingly intersect with cybersecurity risks.
The AutoAuth Certified Program introduces two core components. The Certified Technician Service ensures that both the technician and the vehicle owner are authenticated before any work begins. This process confirms the owner’s presence with the vehicle, helping prevent unauthorized key creation and reducing the risk of theft. Meanwhile, the Certified Tool Service tracks genuine original equipment manufacturer tools and verifies that they are used within approved geographic regions, adding another layer of control and accountability.
The program is also supported by industry collaboration. Equipment Tool Institute members in good standing can access the tool certification service at no cost, encouraging wider adoption across the aftermarket ecosystem. Chris Bowman, Executive Director of the institute, said, “Efforts like these from OmniTrust’s AutoAuth team highlight the importance of building trusted, secure systems within the aftermarket ecosystem. Advancements in this area are a meaningful step toward strengthening confidence and integrity across the industry.”
AutoAuth has already established a foundation for secure access by authenticating repair shops and enabling verified connections between manufacturers and service providers. By extending certification to both tools and technicians, OmniTrust is building a complete trust layer that spans manufacturers, service centers, and end users.
The AutoAuth Certified Program reflects a broader trend in automotive cybersecurity, where identity verification and access control are becoming essential to protecting connected vehicles. As the industry continues to evolve, solutions that combine transparency, accountability, and real time validation will be critical to preventing misuse and ensuring safe, secure vehicle servicing across global markets.
