As demand for sovereign cloud infrastructure grows across Europe, enterprises are seeking secure environments that balance innovation with strict regulatory compliance. SAP and S3NS have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate trusted cloud adoption in France, with Thales as the first major customer. The collaboration aims to deliver secure, compliant cloud environments aligned with French and European regulations, marking a significant step forward in digital sovereignty. The SAP S3NS partnership is designed to enable organizations to modernize critical workloads without compromising on security or data control.

Under the agreement, SAP’s RISE private cloud edition will be deployed through SAP Sovereign Cloud on S3NS’s SecNumCloud qualified platform, known as PREMI3NS, by the second half of 2026. This setup ensures that enterprise data remains stored, processed, and encrypted within France under national jurisdiction, while still leveraging SAP’s full innovation stack, including advanced AI capabilities. The approach addresses growing concerns around data sovereignty and compliance, particularly for regulated industries.

Thomas Saueressig, Chief Customer Officer and Member of the Executive Board at SAP, said, “This partnership represents a major step forward for our customers in France and sends a strong signal across Europe. Customers can combine SAP’s innovation and scalability within an environment that meets the highest regulatory requirements, enabling transformation without compromise.” His remarks highlight the importance of combining enterprise software innovation with secure cloud infrastructure.

Thales will play a key role as the first SAP customer to adopt the S3NS trusted cloud environment. The company is undertaking a large scale transformation of its SAP ERP landscape, aligning with the clean core principle to improve agility and long term scalability. Core business processes such as finance, supply chain, manufacturing, and procurement will be unified on the PREMI3NS platform.

Pascal Bouchiat, Chief Financial Officer of Thales, emphasized the strategic importance of the move, stating, “SAP is a cornerstone of Thales’ transformation, with a proven track record in supporting complex industrial operations and supply chain environments. Leveraging SAP within a trusted cloud platform such as PREMI3NS by S3NS is a natural step in our transformation journey, delivering the security, resilience, and compliance the Group requires.”

The partnership also expands S3NS’s ecosystem by integrating SAP into its SecNumCloud aligned infrastructure, which is specifically designed to protect sensitive data from extraterritorial access. Martin Merz, President of SAP Sovereign Cloud, noted, “France is leading the way in shaping digital sovereignty in Europe, and SecNumCloud sets a clear benchmark for a trusted cloud environment. Together with S3NS, we are enabling customers to move their most critical workloads to the cloud under French jurisdiction – combining sovereignty and innovation in one consistent model.”

Hélène Bringer, President of S3NS, added, “Having a partner as demanding as SAP choosing S3NS is a strong endorsement of our trajectory and the continuous enrichment of our trusted cloud offering. This collaboration marks an important step in expanding our ecosystem of leading software publishers, while accelerating our development.”

The SAP S3NS partnership signals a major shift in the European cloud landscape, where trusted cloud infrastructure is evolving from a niche requirement into a scalable, enterprise ready solution. As organizations increasingly prioritize compliance, security, and AI driven transformation, collaborations like this are expected to play a critical role in enabling secure digital growth across regulated industries.
