Freshfields has entered a multi-year strategic partnership with Anthropic to accelerate AI-driven innovation and expand the adoption of advanced legal workflows across the firm. Through this collaboration, both organizations aim to redefine how legal services are delivered by embedding AI deeply into day-to-day operations.
To begin with, Freshfields has rolled out access to Claude Anthropic’s family of frontier AI models to 5,700 employees via its proprietary AI platform. As a result, the firm has already witnessed a sharp increase in adoption, with usage growing by nearly 500% within just six weeks. This rapid uptake highlights the growing demand for AI-powered tools in legal environments.
Moreover, the partnership includes a firmwide deployment of Claude’s capabilities across Freshfields’ 33 global offices. This ensures that professionals across all practice areas and business functions can leverage AI to enhance productivity and improve client outcomes. At the same time, the initiative reflects a broader industry shift toward integrating AI into core professional workflows.
Over the next year, both organizations will collaborate closely to design and implement new AI-driven legal processes. These workflows will leverage Anthropic’s latest technologies to support tasks such as legal research, contract review, document drafting, and due diligence. In addition, the partnership introduces a co-development program focused on building specialized legal AI applications and agentic workflows capable of handling complex, multi-step tasks more efficiently.
A key component of this initiative is Freshfields’ internal innovation hub, Freshfields Lab, which has already developed proprietary AI solutions integrated with Claude. Consequently, lawyers and business professionals gain a unified, secure entry point to AI tools that connect seamlessly with the firm’s institutional knowledge.
Furthermore, Freshfields plans to expand its capabilities by adopting Cowork, Anthropic’s agentic AI platform, while ensuring alignment with strict security, compliance, and training standards. This move is expected to further enhance automation and streamline workflows across the organization.
“For us, innovation is about practical impact – helping our teams deliver the very best outcomes for clients, while holding ourselves to the highest standards of responsibility and governance,” said Gil Perez, Chief Innovation Officer, at Freshfields. “Partnering with Anthropic strengthens our ability to co-innovate at pace and to bring new capabilities into our work in a way that is secure, compliant and focused on client needs.”
“Our approach in the Freshfields Lab has always been to build on the best available technology. Claude’s capabilities have become an essential part of our proprietary AI-powered solutions,” said Gerrit Beckhaus, Partner and Co-Head Freshfields Lab. “With this collaboration, we are going further: co-developing agentic workflows with Anthropic that can handle multi-step legal tasks end-to-end. For our clients, that translates into faster, more precise and more scalable legal services.”
“Freshfields operates at the highest levels of global law. Their decision to go wall-to-wall with Claude across legal work, business services, and now agentic workflows is the clearest signal yet that the enterprise AI moment in professional services has arrived,” said Kate Jensen, Head of Americas, Anthropic.
Ultimately, this partnership underscores how AI is rapidly transforming the legal sector, enabling firms like Freshfields to deliver faster, smarter, and more scalable services in an increasingly competitive landscape.
