Rubrik has introduced new integrations with Google Cloud, strengthening enterprise capabilities in AI governance and cloud database protection. With these launches, the company directly targets two rapidly expanding areas—AI oversight and cyber resilience—while addressing growing concerns around security in modern cloud environments.

To begin with, Rubrik launched Rubrik Agent Cloud for the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. This integration focuses on organisations deploying autonomous AI agents and aims to ensure tighter governance over AI-driven actions. At the same time, Rubrik extended its Rubrik Security Cloud to support Google Cloud SQL, particularly for managed PostgreSQL databases.

As enterprises accelerate AI adoption, the need for oversight becomes critical. According to projections cited by Rubrik from Gartner, nearly 40% of enterprise applications will integrate task-specific AI agents by 2026. Therefore, Rubrik’s new offering arrives at a pivotal moment.

The integration for Gemini Enterprise introduces a governance layer powered by Rubrik’s Semantic AI Governance Engine (SAGE). This system actively monitors and controls AI agent behaviour in real time. Moreover, it provides automatic discovery of running agents, a centralised view of risk exposure, and access permissions. Notably, a feature called “Agent Rewind” enables administrators to reverse harmful or unintended actions executed by autonomous agents.

Furthermore, organisations can manage AI security policies using the same unified platform already employed for Google Workspace and hybrid cloud environments. This consistency simplifies operations while enhancing security visibility across systems.

Google Cloud emphasised the importance of such advancements as enterprises move towards autonomous AI systems.
“As enterprises move into the autonomous era with Gemini Enterprise, security and governance are top of mind,” said Satish Thomas, Vice President, Applied AI & Platform Ecosystem, Google Cloud. “Rubrik helps to provide a unified control layer for agent deployment and security that is critical for AI success.”

Meanwhile, Rubrik highlighted customer demand for balancing innovation with protection.
“Enterprises want the speed of Google Cloud’s AI technologies, but also require the safety of Rubrik’s cyber resilience,” said Devvret Rishi, General Manager AI, Rubrik. “Through this collaboration, we will remove the governance bottleneck for customers developing with Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. RAC provides real-time guardrails organisations need to speed AI agents into production, without the worry of compromising enterprise security or integrity.”

In addition to AI governance, Rubrik addressed database security challenges with its Cloud SQL integration. The company now enables automated immutable backups for PostgreSQL databases running on Google Cloud. Importantly, this solution complements existing disaster recovery setups instead of replacing them.

It also introduces features such as automated discovery of Cloud SQL instances, global policy enforcement, and flexible backup storage options using Google Cloud Storage tiers like Archive, Coldline, or Nearline. Additionally, tag-based service-level agreements allow organisations to apply consistent retention policies across multiple databases.

As cyber threats continue to rise, these enhancements come at a crucial time. Research from Rubrik’s Zero Labs reveals that 90% of IT and security leaders experienced cyberattacks in the past year, while 35% identified data protection across diverse ecosystems as their biggest challenge.

For Cloud SQL users, this complexity often stems from managing backups, ensuring compliance, and maintaining visibility across distributed systems. Consequently, Rubrik positions its integration as a centralised solution that streamlines oversight across services like Google Workspace, Compute Engine, and Kubernetes Engine.

Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer at Rubrik, reinforced the company’s approach:
“Organisations shouldn’t have to choose between cyber resilience and disaster recovery,” Gupta said. “With Google Cloud, we’re giving our joint customers immutable backups that work alongside their existing disaster recovery strategy, so they can meet compliance requirements, protect against threats, and recover fast, all without changing their architecture.”

Ultimately, this dual launch reflects a broader industry shift. Vendors are increasingly embedding security into AI systems while simultaneously reinforcing the protection of underlying data infrastructures. In Rubrik’s case, the strategy unifies AI governance and cloud data protection within a single platform, helping enterprises scale innovation without compromising security.
