Cyber threat actors are increasingly exploiting generative AI to execute large-scale advertising scams with growing sophistication. As a result, Google has taken a proactive step by embedding its advanced Gemini AI into its security infrastructure to counter these evolving threats effectively.

According to Google’s newly published 2025 Ads Safety Report, this strategic integration has significantly strengthened its defense mechanisms. Notably, the system now detects and blocks more than 99% of policy-violating advertisements before they ever reach users, marking a substantial leap in proactive cybersecurity enforcement.

Traditionally, keyword-based filtering systems played a central role in identifying malicious ads. However, cybercriminals have adapted quickly, using more complex evasion techniques. Consequently, Google has moved beyond these outdated methods. Gemini AI now processes hundreds of billions of real-time data signals, enabling a deeper and more contextual understanding of ad behavior.

For instance, the system evaluates multiple parameters such as account age, behavioral patterns, and campaign-level signals. This allows it to accurately determine the true intent behind each advertisement. As a result, Google can now identify and block harmful content even when threat actors attempt to disguise their activities.

The impact of this AI-driven approach has been substantial. In 2025 alone, Google’s security systems and teams achieved remarkable results. The company blocked or removed over 8.3 billion malicious ads worldwide. Additionally, it suspended 24.9 million advertiser accounts due to severe policy violations. Furthermore, Google intercepted 602 million scam-related ads and disabled 4 million accounts directly linked to fraudulent campaigns.

At the same time, cybercriminals continue to leverage automation to generate deceptive ads at scale. In response, Google uses Gemini to provide real-time defense. By the end of 2025, most Responsive Search Ads underwent instant review, ensuring that harmful content gets blocked at the submission stage itself.

Looking ahead, Google plans to extend this instant-review capability to additional ad formats. Moreover, Gemini has significantly enhanced the efficiency of processing user reports. In fact, the company handled four times more user reports in 2025 compared to the previous year. This improvement allows human security teams to concentrate on more complex investigations.

Importantly, while aggressive threat blocking is essential, it can sometimes affect legitimate advertisers. However, Gemini’s advanced analytical capabilities help differentiate between genuine marketing campaigns and sophisticated phishing attempts. As a result, Google achieved an 80% reduction in incorrect advertiser suspensions.

Combined with a strict advertiser verification process, Google continues to prioritize user safety while ensuring that legitimate businesses can operate without disruption. This balanced approach highlights the growing importance of AI in modern cybersecurity strategies.
