Garmin Ltd., a leading manufacturer of GPS navigation devices and wearable fitness technology, has disclosed that a recent cyberattack disrupted several of its systems, temporarily impacting online services while leaving customer data uncompromised.

The incident began last Thursday when certain Garmin systems were encrypted by an external threat actor, causing outages across multiple platforms.  As a result, key services, including website functionality, customer support operations, user-facing applications, and internal communication systems, were affected during the disruption.

Garmin responded immediately by initiating an investigation and implementing remediation measures to restore affected services. Among the impacted platforms was Garmin Connect, the company’s widely used application that allows users to track, analyze, and share fitness activities such as running and cycling via mobile and web interfaces.

The outage also affected Garmin’s ability to process customer communications, temporarily disrupting phone support, email responses, and online chat services. This created delays in customer service interactions while systems were being restored.

Despite the operational impact, Garmin confirmed that there is no evidence indicating that customer data – including sensitive payment information – was accessed or exfiltrated during the attack. The company also clarified that the core functionality of its devices remained intact, with disruptions limited primarily to connectivity with online services.

Garmin has not disclosed the number of users affected, and further details regarding the nature or origin of the attack have not been revealed at this time.

The incident highlights the growing risks faced by technology providers as cyberattacks increasingly target interconnected platforms and digital service ecosystems, even as companies strengthen their defenses against data breaches.
