The Finnish cosmetics company Lumene Group has successfully completed a major cybersecurity modernization initiative that began in 2024 in collaboration with telecom and digital services provider Elisa. Through this long-term partnership, Lumene has significantly enhanced the protection of its increasingly digital production environment and internationally distributed beauty brands. Importantly, Elisa’s Finland-based cybersecurity experts delivered the comprehensive project on schedule, reinforcing operational resilience while supporting Lumene’s global growth ambitions.

As part of the initiative, Lumene Group joined the Elisa Security Operations Center (SOC), which provides 24/7 monitoring and rapid response to potential cyber threats. Consequently, the company now benefits from real-time threat visibility and faster incident mitigation. In addition, Lumene implemented advanced DDoS protection and enterprise-grade firewall solutions to secure network connections across its production facility and retail locations.

Lumene, widely recognized for its LUMENE, CUTRIN, and IDA WARG Beauty brands, aims to double its revenue by the end of the decade. Therefore, strengthening cybersecurity infrastructure has become a critical business enabler rather than just an IT requirement. Over recent years, Lumene has invested heavily in digital transformation, particularly in improving operational efficiency at its Espoo production facility. As digitalization expanded across production and business systems, cybersecurity became increasingly vital to maintaining operational continuity and protecting intellectual property.

“We invested millions of euros in the production environment, and it would have been foolish to ignore cybersecurity,” says Petri Pantsar, Head of IT Infrastructure and Cybersecurity at Lumene Group. “The comprehensive protection we have now built ensures that our production will not be disrupted and that we will maintain a safe, good and stable workplace for our hundreds of employees also in the future,” he continues.

Furthermore, Lumene deployed Elisa’s Cybersecurity Center OT service to strengthen protection across operational technology environments. This service monitors production facilities, industrial equipment, production lines, and connected IoT devices. As manufacturing systems increasingly connect to digital networks, these assets become more exposed to cyber risks. By implementing OT security monitoring, Lumene can detect threats targeting industrial infrastructure earlier and respond more effectively.

To further strengthen defenses, Lumene conducted penetration testing and physical security audits. These assessments helped identify potential vulnerabilities and allowed the company to proactively address weaknesses before attackers could exploit them.

“Elisa’s experts found the right solutions, and projects have been completed on schedule, which is rare for such large-scale IT projects,” Pantsar says.

In addition to infrastructure security, Lumene and Elisa also developed an advanced threat intelligence service focused on brand protection. This capability enables Lumene to monitor the internet for counterfeit products, fake websites, and unauthorized brand misuse. As a result, the company can respond quickly to digital brand threats that could impact customer trust and revenue.

“The service has proven its value when we have been able to take action against, for example, fake websites,” Pantsar describes.

Since implementing Elisa’s cybersecurity solutions, Lumene has not experienced any data breaches. However, company leadership emphasizes that cybersecurity requires continuous improvement and vigilance.

“Information security is never complete, but we have taken significant steps in the right direction.”

Additionally, Pantsar highlighted the importance of skilled cybersecurity professionals supporting the initiative.

“Elisa has succeeded in hiring high-quality workforce from the labor market. Personally, I appreciate the fact that the experts’ way of working is professional yet relaxed.”

Overall, Lumene’s cybersecurity transformation demonstrates how strong security partnerships, proactive threat intelligence, and continuous monitoring can support digital growth while protecting global brand reputation and production continuity.
