Kensington has expanded its security portfolio with the introduction of two new hardware authentication devices—VeriMark NFC+ USB-C Security Key and VeriMark NFC+ USB-A Security Key—designed to strengthen protection against phishing and credential-based attacks.
As cyber threats continue to evolve, passwords remain one of the weakest links in security. Kensington’s latest offering addresses this challenge by eliminating passwords altogether and replacing them with hardware-based authentication. Instead of typing credentials, users simply tap the security key via USB or NFC to verify their identity, significantly reducing the risk of phishing and credential theft.
Both devices are built on the FIDO2 standard and support the latest FIDO CTAP 2.1 protocol, enabling secure, passwordless logins across a wide range of platforms and services. By leveraging public-key cryptography, authentication happens locally on the device, meaning sensitive credentials are never transmitted or stored in ways that attackers can intercept.
What makes these keys particularly valuable is their simplicity combined with enterprise-grade security. They require no additional drivers or software installation and work seamlessly across major operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS. They also support modern authentication methods like Passkeys and integration with services such as Apple ID.
The dual connectivity—USB and NFC—ensures flexibility for both desktop and mobile users, making it easier for organizations to deploy consistent security across different environments. Additionally, the keys are built for durability, featuring IP68-rated resistance to water, dust, and physical damage, making them suitable for everyday use in both office and remote settings.
The launch reflects a growing shift toward zero-trust security models, where identity verification is continuous and does not rely on static credentials. With phishing attacks and credential reuse continuing to drive breaches globally, hardware security keys are becoming an essential component of modern cybersecurity strategies.
