SLC Digital and Ideco Biometrics have announced a strategic partnership to develop a unified identity framework that combines SIM-based authentication with biometric verification. The collaboration aims to address the growing sophistication of digital fraud, including account takeovers, SIM swap attacks, and AI-driven impersonation. As cybercriminal tactics evolve, organizations are increasingly moving away from traditional authentication methods that can be intercepted or manipulated.
The joint solution integrates SLC Digital’s hardware-rooted identity platform with Ideco’s biometric technologies, creating a layered approach to identity assurance. By anchoring identity verification in both physical SIM infrastructure and biometric data, the framework is designed to provide stronger protection against unauthorized access and identity misuse.
According to industry data, account takeover losses exceeded $262 million in 2025, highlighting the urgency for more resilient identity systems. The new approach seeks to reduce reliance on vulnerable factors such as passwords and one-time codes, which are often targeted in social engineering attacks.
Travis McGregor, CEO of SLC Digital, said the partnership represents a significant step toward expanding secure, hardware-based identity solutions into new markets. He noted that combining biometric verification with SIM-based authentication creates a more robust foundation for digital trust.
Marius Coetzee, CEO of Ideco, emphasized the potential of the collaboration to establish a new standard for identity assurance, particularly in sectors where security and compliance are critical. He added that the combined solution is designed to scale across enterprise and government environments.
The partnership will initially focus on South Africa, where Ideco will lead deployment efforts. Target industries include financial services, telecommunications, and digital platforms, all of which face increasing pressure to strengthen fraud prevention and identity verification processes. Following the initial rollout, both companies plan to expand into additional markets, reflecting growing global demand for infrastructure-level identity solutions. The initiative aligns with a broader shift toward integrating hardware and biometric technologies to enhance security in an increasingly digital and AI-driven threat landscape.
