Lonestar has unveiled StarVault, a commercially operational space-based data storage platform designed to provide sovereign, ultra-secure data protection beyond Earth. The company also announced the procurement of a second orbital payload from Sidus Space to support rising global demand for off-planet data security solutions. StarVault introduces a new approach to digital resilience by combining advanced cryptographic key escrow capabilities with space-based storage infrastructure. By extending data storage into orbit, the platform is designed to protect critical information from cybersecurity, natural disasters, and geopolitical risks that could impact terrestrial systems.
The announcement follows a series of successful test missions and growing interest from governments, financial institutions, and operators of critical infrastructure. Lonestar said demand for secure, off-planet data storage has exceeded expectations, prompting the company to accelerate its deployment strategy.
Steve Eisele, CEO of Lonestar, described StarVault as the beginning of a new category in digital infrastructure. He noted that the company is not only introducing a novel solution but also scaling it rapidly to meet increasing demand for highly resilient data protection. As part of this expansion, Lonestar has commissioned a second StarVault payload from Sidus Space, adding to its planned orbital infrastructure. The first payload is currently under development and is scheduled to launch aboard the LizzieSat-4 mission in October. A second launch is planned for the following year, which will enhance storage capacity, redundancy, and global coverage.
