Fortra has announced the creation of a new Defense and Intelligence Unit (DIU), a dedicated business division focused on delivering advanced cybersecurity solutions to critical infrastructure, defense, intelligence, and national security organizations worldwide. The new unit will operate with its own leadership structure and specialized operating model, reflecting the increasing complexity of cyber threats facing high-risk and mission-critical environments. The move builds on Fortra’s growing presence in the defense and intelligence sector, where demand for tailored, resilient cybersecurity solutions continues to rise.
Matt Reck, CEO of Fortra, said the launch of the DIU underscores the company’s commitment to supporting organizations operating in highly sensitive and demanding conditions. He highlighted the growing challenges posed by cyberattacks on critical infrastructure and the need for solutions that can function effectively in complex operational environments.
The DIU will be led by John Grancarich, who has been appointed Executive Vice President and Head of Defense and Intelligence. Previously serving as Fortra’s Chief Strategy Officer, Grancarich has worked closely with global partners and mission leaders to assess evolving cybersecurity requirements across defense and intelligence communities. These insights have shaped the strategy and design of the new unit.
Grancarich said the DIU is focused on delivering practical, real-world solutions that can operate in environments such as disconnected networks, forward-deployed systems, and high-risk mission scenarios. He emphasized the importance of innovation and adaptability in addressing the growing intersection of geopolitical and cyber threats.
The unit will focus on several strategic areas, including secure data discovery and classification aligned with defense requirements, protected data movement across classified and contested networks, and AI-driven infrastructure testing for high-risk environments. It will also develop mission-specific architectures, including deployable and enclave-ready solutions, while building partnerships with global systems integrators and technology providers.
In addition, Fortra plans to invest in specialized facilities and cleared personnel across North America and Europe to support the DIU’s operations. These capabilities are intended to ensure compliance with stringent security standards and enable collaboration with government and defense partners. The launch of the DIU marks a significant step in Fortra’s broader strategy to support regulated and mission-critical sectors. As cyber threats continue to evolve alongside geopolitical tensions, the new unit is expected to play a key role in enhancing cyber resilience for allied nations and organizations operating in high-stakes environments.
