OmniTrust, formerly INTEGRITY Security Services (ISS), has announced that the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has selected its TrafficAuth™ platform for a major deployment of next-generation Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) infrastructure. The initiative marks a significant milestone in scaling network-based V2X (V2N) capabilities alongside direct V2X (PC5), enabling a more practical and immediate path to widespread adoption.

The deployment highlights a hybrid approach that combines network V2X with direct communication technologies, allowing transportation agencies to roll out connected vehicle solutions without waiting for full roadside infrastructure development. By leveraging existing cellular networks, TrafficAuth enables faster implementation while maintaining interoperability with established direct V2X systems.

OmniTrust’s TrafficAuth platform builds on more than a decade of investment in secure, standards-based communication systems. It is designed to extend V2X capabilities over the current network infrastructure while ensuring compatibility with industry standards. Brian Romansky, Vice President and General Manager of Connected City Solutions at OmniTrust, emphasized the significance of the deployment, stating that it demonstrates V2X can scale immediately across any network and cellular carrier while remaining aligned with direct V2X standards.

At its core, TrafficAuth enables seamless and secure communication between vehicles, infrastructure, and mobile devices. The platform incorporates SAE J2735 messaging standards, the IEEE 1609.2 security framework, and SCMS-based identity and credential management. These technologies ensure trusted communication through authenticated access, role-based controls, and user whitelisting, bringing high-assurance cybersecurity into real-world transportation systems.

The initial phase of the Maricopa County deployment will focus on improving intersection safety and traffic operations. Key use cases include signal priority and preemption for authorized vehicles, real-time safety messaging for drivers and road workers, and controlled access through identity-based authentication. These capabilities are expected to enhance emergency response times, optimize traffic flow, and improve safety for both motorists and vulnerable road users.

The scale of the deployment is significant, with TrafficAuth supporting a hybrid V2X implementation across approximately 750 intersections throughout the greater Phoenix region. This large-scale rollout demonstrates how network-based V2X can be deployed efficiently while maintaining the performance and reliability required for critical transportation infrastructure.

TrafficAuth also represents a broader shift toward integrating V2X capabilities into network environments while preserving compatibility with existing direct communication systems. This approach allows transportation agencies to accelerate deployment timelines, reduce infrastructure costs, and maintain interoperability across diverse systems while operating securely at scale.

Beyond infrastructure, the platform is designed to foster an ecosystem of innovation. By providing a secure and standardized reference architecture, TrafficAuth enables third-party developers to build and deploy applications that enhance roadway intelligence. These include solutions for signal prioritization, vulnerable road user protection, weather alerts, and work zone safety, all of which can be integrated into existing digital roadway infrastructure.
