Seiko USA’s website was defaced over the weekend in an apparent cyberattack, with threat actors claiming to have breached the company’s Shopify backend and stolen its customer database. The attackers replaced content in the company’s “Press Lounge” section with a ransom message, warning that sensitive data would be leaked unless their demands were met.

The defaced page, prominently titled “HACKED,” alleged that the attackers had gained full access to Seiko USA’s Shopify store and exfiltrated critical customer information. According to the message displayed, the compromised data includes customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, order histories, transaction details, shipping addresses, and account-related information such as creation dates and internal notes.

The attackers described the situation as an “urgent security notification,” claiming they had successfully downloaded the entire customer database. They further warned that the stolen data would be made public if Seiko USA failed to engage in negotiations within a 72-hour deadline.

As part of their extortion attempt, the threat actors instructed Seiko USA to locate a specific customer account – identified as ID 8069776801871 – within its Shopify admin panel. They claimed to have inserted a contact email address into that account profile, which the company was expected to use to initiate communication.

At this stage, the identity of the attackers remains unknown, and the authenticity of their claims has not been independently verified. Seiko USA has not issued an official public statement regarding the incident or confirmed whether a data breach has occurred.

However, the company has since removed the defacement message from its website, restoring normal content to the affected section. It remains unclear whether this action indicates remediation of the issue or is part of an ongoing internal investigation.

The incident highlights the growing risks facing e-commerce platforms and the increasing focus of cybercriminals on customer data stored within digital retail ecosystems. As attacks targeting online storefronts become more sophisticated, organizations are under mounting pressure to strengthen backend security, monitor for unauthorized access, and respond swiftly to potential breaches.

With customer data potentially at stake, the situation underscores the importance of rapid incident response and transparent communication as companies navigate the evolving threat landscape.
