Lumen Technologies has announced a new collaboration with AWS to transform how businesses connect to the cloud. With this initiative, Lumen becomes the first network provider to work with AWS on AWS Interconnect – last mile, leveraging its Cloud Interconnect solution and extensive network infrastructure. As a result, enterprises can now establish seamless private connectivity between their locations and AWS more efficiently than ever before.

Traditionally, setting up cloud connectivity required multiple providers and lengthy deployment timelines. However, this new approach simplifies the process by turning it into a software-driven experience. By integrating network infrastructure directly into cloud services, Lumen and AWS are enabling organizations to reduce complexity and accelerate operations.

“Cloud and network infrastructure can no longer operate separately; modern applications demand they work as one,” said Jim Fowler, Chief Technology and Product Officer at Lumen Technologies. “Cloud providers are increasingly integrating connectivity as a cloud service, and Lumen’s network enables that seamless experience. Together with AWS, we’re simplifying how enterprises connect to the cloud, helping them reduce complexity, move faster and support today’s demanding applications.”

With AWS Interconnect – last mile, businesses can now create private, high-speed connections from branch offices, data centers, or remote sites directly to AWS in just a few clicks. This process is managed through the AWS Console and Lumen Connect portal, while Lumen Cloud Interconnect operates in the background to deliver an automated, on-demand experience. Consequently, organizations can reduce deployment timelines from weeks to minutes, scale bandwidth dynamically, and ensure consistent performance.

Moreover, this collaboration combines AWS’s cloud capabilities with Lumen’s robust digital network platform. Lumen’s infrastructure spans over 340,000 route miles and connects thousands of enterprise locations and data centers. Therefore, the partnership delivers a unified experience where connectivity is no longer treated as a separate layer but as an integral part of cloud operations.

In addition, this integrated model aligns with the evolving expectations of modern enterprises. Businesses increasingly demand the same level of agility and simplicity from network infrastructure as they do from cloud services. By streamlining connectivity and reducing operational complexity, the Lumen and AWS collaboration helps organizations deploy faster and maximize the value of their cloud investments.

“Enterprises are looking for network infrastructure that delivers the same agility and simplicity they experience in the cloud,” said Peter Chahal, Research Director for IDC’s Worldwide Telecommunications Services and Strategies practice. “The collaboration between Lumen and AWS brings these capabilities together by streamlining connectivity, reducing operational complexity, and enabling organizations to deploy faster, improve performance, and realize greater value from their cloud investments.”

Furthermore, this new connectivity model is particularly beneficial for organizations handling large volumes of data. Industries such as healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and media can leverage this solution to support data-intensive workloads, including generative AI, machine learning, real-time applications, and hybrid or multi-cloud environments.

As enterprises continue to adopt distributed architectures, the quality and reliability of their cloud connections become increasingly critical. By integrating connectivity directly into cloud workflows, Lumen and AWS are addressing this need and setting a new standard for enterprise cloud networking.
