The Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL), led by founder Josh Swihart, has unveiled the latest progress in the evolution of Zcash, outlining a strategic roadmap centered on post-quantum security, scalability, and enhanced user experience.
Drawing inspiration from Artemis II, Swihart compared Zcash’s ambitions to the mission’s goal of orbiting the Moon highlighting how seemingly impossible technological milestones can be achieved through sustained innovation. The ZODL team described the project’s transition into a new phase dubbed “Zcash IV,” which aims to establish foundational infrastructure akin to a “lunar base” capable of supporting billions of users while ensuring secure and private transactions.
At the technology level, ZODL continues to roll out updates across its ecosystem. The latest 3.3.x version of its mobile applications on iOS and Android introduces improvements such as hardware wallet connectivity, upgraded SDKs, and refined user experience features. The team is also advancing key initiatives including Keystone wallet functionality, enhancements to address systems such as ZIP 316 and unified viewing keys, and broader wallet interaction improvements.
Meanwhile, the Zcash core development team has addressed multiple system issues and is progressing work on the Zallet alpha release. Efforts to standardize unified addresses and improve interoperability between wallets are expected to strengthen the platform’s scalability and performance over time.
ZODL also steady growth in application usage and revealed its participation in a privacy-focused stablecoin summit aimed at fostering industry collaboration. However, the team noted that it has temporarily removed its applications from the Russian app store due to evolving regulatory requirements and network restrictions. Reaffirming its long-term vision, the organization emphasized that privacy should be treated as a fundamental necessity in the digital era rather than an optional feature. ZODL plans to accelerate development timelines, expand ecosystem partnerships, and drive broader adoption of ZEC as it works toward building an open, self-hosted private finance platform for global users.
