ModMed, a provider of cloud-based software and services for specialty medical practices, has announced a new multi-year agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to further advance its AI-driven healthcare platform. The expanded partnership reinforces AWS as the core cloud provider behind ModMed’s AI-Powered Practice, an initiative designed to integrate artificial intelligence across clinical, billing, front-office operations, and patient engagement. Since its inception as a cloud-native company, ModMed has relied on AWS to support its infrastructure. With this renewed agreement, the company aims to accelerate the deployment of AI technologies that reduce administrative burdens and enable healthcare providers to focus more on patient care.
Both organizations emphasize a shared goal of enhancing the human aspect of medicine through technology. By leveraging AI to automate repetitive administrative tasks, the collaboration seeks to improve efficiency while maintaining high standards of care delivery.
Dr. Rowland Illing, Chief Medical Officer and Director of Global Healthcare and Life Sciences at AWS, highlighted the importance of trust and technical reliability in healthcare innovation. He noted that AWS provides a secure and compliant cloud environment that enables ModMed to scale its solutions while supporting better patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
The partnership also plays a critical role in scaling ModMed’s AI-Powered Practice, including advancements such as ModMed Scribe 2.0. As healthcare providers increasingly rely on digital platforms, the need for highly reliable and scalable infrastructure has become essential. AWS’s cloud capabilities ensure that ModMed can maintain high availability, strong data security, and consistent performance as its platform grows.
Since introducing its AI-focused vision in 2025, ModMed has incorporated advanced machine learning and generative AI technologies into its platform. These tools are designed to be specialty-specific and deeply integrated, providing tailored support for healthcare professionals across different medical fields.
According to ModMed Chief Technology Officer Venk Jayaraman, the company required a cloud partner capable of delivering both large-scale infrastructure and advanced technical expertise. He stated that AWS has met these demands, enabling ModMed to build a robust and scalable foundation for its AI initiatives.
The platform’s scale underscores the significance of the partnership. ModMed supports nearly 50,000 healthcare providers and processes vast amounts of clinical data, including hundreds of millions of patient interactions annually. Its AI models are trained on extensive datasets, comprising hundreds of millions of clinical encounters and billions of diagnoses and treatment records.
Powered by AWS, the platform processes more than three petabytes of data each month, supporting high-volume workloads such as clinical documentation, patient communications, and performance analytics. This level of scalability allows ModMed to deliver AI-driven insights without compromising speed, stability, or data privacy. As AI continues to reshape healthcare, the expanded collaboration between ModMed and AWS reflects a broader industry push toward intelligent, cloud-based solutions that enhance both operational efficiency and patient outcomes.
