Service aims to unify governance while maintaining flexibility across Kakao Cloud ecosystem
Kakao Enterprise has announced the launch of its Security as a Service (SECaaS) offering on April 10, aiming to strengthen cloud security governance across its group of affiliated companies. The new service is part of Kakao Enterprise’s broader strategy to build a unified yet flexible security framework as organizations increasingly rely on cloud and AI-driven infrastructure.
The announcement was made during a cloud security seminar held near Pangyo in Seongnam, where security leaders from major Kakao affiliates – including KakaoBank, Kakao Pay, and Kakao Entertainment – gathered to discuss evolving cybersecurity challenges. The event was co-hosted with global cybersecurity firms Palo Alto Networks Korea, F5 Korea, SentinelOne, and Akamai Korea, highlighting a collaborative approach to enterprise security.
SECaaS is designed as a Kakao Cloud-based framework that enables consistent governance while allowing customization based on the specific needs of each affiliate. The service combines Kakao Cloud’s native security capabilities with advanced third-party solutions, offering a packaged model that simplifies deployment while enhancing overall protection.
Lim Byung-doo, head of the service security team at Kakao Enterprise, emphasized that Kakao affiliates have developed multi-layered security architectures over time, forming a robust and interconnected ecosystem. He noted that SECaaS will leverage this collective experience to deliver optimized security models, enabling affiliates to adopt proven best practices and strengthen their threat response capabilities.
During the seminar, key technology partners introduced their latest innovations in cybersecurity. Palo Alto Networks Korea highlighted the importance of Zero Trust architecture, which requires continuous verification of all access requests. F5 Korea discussed AI runtime security through its application delivery and security platform (ADSP), while SentinelOne introduced a conversational AI-based solution for detecting and analyzing advanced persistent threats (APTs). Akamai Korea underscored the role of micro-segmentation in preventing lateral movement within networks and reducing the impact of potential breaches.
Lee Yong-min, head of Kakao Enterprise’s cloud division, stated that as artificial intelligence becomes central to business operations, strengthening security and governance in cloud environments is no longer optional. He added that Kakao Enterprise aims to position itself as a central hub for consolidating security technologies and expertise, enabling its affiliates to scale securely while maintaining consistent governance standards.
With the introduction of SECaaS, Kakao Enterprise is reinforcing its commitment to delivering a scalable and integrated cloud security ecosystem. The initiative reflects a growing industry trend toward unified security platforms that balance flexibility with centralized oversight, particularly as organizations navigate increasingly complex digital environments.
