Cobalt has announced the appointment of Tony Spinelli to its board of directors, strengthening its leadership as demand grows for continuous, intelligence-driven security strategies. Spinelli brings more than 25 years of experience in cybersecurity and digital transformation, having served as a four-time Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and two-time Chief Information Officer (CIO). He is currently Chief Security Officer at Halcyon and has held senior roles at major organizations including Capital One, Equifax, First Data, and Tyco International.

The appointment comes at a time when enterprises are rethinking how they manage cyber risk amid expanding attack surfaces, AI-driven threats, and increasingly sophisticated adversaries. Cobalt, known for its penetration testing as a service (PTaaS) model, is focusing on helping organizations transition from traditional, point-in-time testing to continuous offensive security approaches.

CEO Sonali Shah said Spinelli’s experience in cloud transformation and enterprise security will play a key role in advancing the company’s Offensive Security Platform and supporting customers as they adopt more programmatic and scalable security practices.

Throughout his career, Spinelli has led large-scale cybersecurity and innovation initiatives, including helping pioneer secure cloud adoption at Capital One and advancing machine learning and AI-driven security capabilities. In addition to his executive roles, he serves on multiple boards and contributes to academic and professional organizations, including teaching roles at George Washington University and involvement with the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Spinelli emphasized that cybersecurity is at a turning point, where traditional defensive models are no longer sufficient. He noted that organizations must adopt continuous, intelligence-led approaches that mirror real-world attacker behavior. Cobalt’s move aligns with a broader industry shift toward Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM), where organizations continuously assess and validate their security posture rather than relying on periodic testing.

With Spinelli’s addition to the board, Cobalt aims to further accelerate its growth in the enterprise market and expand its platform-driven approach to offensive security combining human expertise with AI-powered capabilities to deliver measurable risk reduction. The appointment highlights the company’s continued momentum as businesses seek more proactive and adaptive ways to defend against evolving cyber threats.
