Rigetti Computing has officially introduced the general availability of its advanced 108-qubit quantum computing system, Cepheus™-1-108Q. This latest development marks a significant leap in quantum technology, as the company continues to strengthen its position in full-stack quantum-classical computing. Notably, users can now access the system through Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services (QCS®) as well as via Amazon Braket, AWS’s dedicated quantum computing platform.
To begin with, Cepheus-1-108Q stands out as Rigetti’s most powerful system so far. Built on its proprietary chiplet-based architecture, the system integrates twelve interconnected 9-qubit chiplets. As a result, it delivers three times the qubit capacity compared to its predecessor, the 36-qubit Cepheus-1-36Q system. This modular approach not only enhances scalability but also ensures improved system efficiency.
In addition, the system currently achieves impressive performance metrics, including a 99.1% median two-qubit gate fidelity and a 99.9% median single-qubit gate fidelity. With a gate speed of approximately 60 nanoseconds, Rigetti aims to meet the growing demand for high-performance quantum solutions. Furthermore, the company plans to enhance system capabilities throughout 2026 as part of its long-term innovation roadmap.
“Cepheus-1-108Q is a milestone that validates our ambitious approach to scaling quantum computers,” said Dr. Subodh Kulkarni, Rigetti CEO. “Our proprietary chiplet-based architecture is paving the way toward higher fidelity, higher qubit systems that will ultimately enable fault-tolerant quantum computing.”
Moreover, Rigetti emphasized its commitment to continuous improvement. The company highlighted that its architecture supports faster gate speeds—approximately 1,000 to 10,000 times quicker than alternative technologies like trapped-ion and neutral-atom systems. This advantage positions Rigetti strongly in the competitive quantum landscape.
On the partnership front, Amazon Braket now includes the Cepheus-1-108Q system, expanding its offerings for global researchers and enterprises. “The addition of Cepheus-1-108Q to Amazon Braket gives our global customers another choice as they research quantum computing applications in materials science, optimization, and quantum simulation. As the first gate-based device on Braket with over 100 qubits, Cepheus-1-108Q delivers improved fidelities that allow customers to push to wider and deeper circuits,” said Eric Kessler, General Manager, Amazon Braket. “Rigetti was a launch partner for Amazon Braket, and we’re excited to deepen that relationship with this launch. With Cepheus-1-108Q, we bring the third generation of Rigetti devices to our customers, following Aspen and Ankaa. We remain committed to providing researchers and enterprises around the world with access to the latest quantum hardware.”
Key Technical Advancements
The system introduces several engineering breakthroughs. For instance, optimized qubit and coupler designs enable faster and more reliable two-qubit operations. Additionally, the integration of CZ gates supports efficient error correction, which is essential for future fault-tolerant quantum systems. Rigetti also enhanced its control electronics, improving signal clarity and readout accuracy.
At the same time, the company refined its fabrication process using Alternating-Bias Assisted Annealing, which reduces defects and boosts qubit performance. Importantly, Rigetti addressed challenges related to scaling beyond 100 qubits by minimizing coupling interactions, thereby shifting focus toward improving coherence time.
