As governments accelerate cybersecurity modernization, AppGate Zero Trust Network Access is playing a key role in securing large scale defense environments under the U.S. Air Force’s Next Generation Gateway initiative.
AppGate has announced a partnership with General Dynamics Information Technology to deliver its Zero Trust Network Access solution as part of a 120 million dollar U.S. task order aimed at strengthening cybersecurity across Air Force bases worldwide. The announcement was made at RSA Conference 2026 and highlights one of the most significant Zero Trust deployments within the Department of Defense.
The Next Generation Gateway program is designed to support more than one million users across 187 global bases while protecting sensitive information at multiple classification levels. As the Air Force advances its Zero Trust strategy, the program focuses on securing access to systems and data in increasingly complex and distributed environments.
AppGate Zero Trust Network Access is built to enforce identity centric and least privilege access, ensuring that users can only reach the resources necessary for their roles. This approach is particularly important in defense operations, where systems must remain secure even in disconnected or degraded conditions. The platform dynamically establishes encrypted connections between authorized users and approved resources, while remaining invisible to unauthorized actors.
“Next Generation Gateway is redefining how Zero Trust is operationalized at scale,” said Leo Taddeo, CEO of AppGate. “AppGate’s ZTNA solution is purpose-built for defense and federal missions that require high assurance, operational resilience, and the ability to operate across global, classified and tactical environments.”
The integration of AppGate’s technology into the NGG program is expected to enhance interoperability with mission partners, improve operational effectiveness, and strengthen protection for both warfighters and enterprise users. By keeping policy enforcement within mission boundaries, the solution reduces attack surfaces and supports continuous operations even in challenging network conditions.
The platform has also achieved certification from the National Information Assurance Partnership, confirming compliance with federal security standards and reinforcing its suitability for sensitive government deployments. This certification is a critical requirement for technologies supporting national security infrastructure.
The NGG task order awarded to General Dynamics Information Technology reflects the Air Force’s broader commitment to implementing Zero Trust architectures across its operations. These architectures integrate identity management, data centric security, and advanced threat detection to meet federal cybersecurity mandates ahead of the 2027 deadline.
“As the Air Force and its mission partners accelerate Zero Trust adoption, AppGate remains focused on enabling secure, scalable access that strengthens cyber resilience and protects national security,” Taddeo added.
As cyber threats continue to evolve, AppGate Zero Trust Network Access demonstrates how identity driven security models are becoming essential for protecting critical infrastructure. By supporting one of the largest Zero Trust initiatives in defense, AppGate is helping shape the future of secure access and resilience across global military operations.
