Brand Covered: Microsoft

Headline: Microsoft Plans to Disable WDS Hands-Free Deployment After Critical RCE Flaw

Microsoft has announced a phased security plan to disable the hands-free deployment feature in Windows Deployment Services (WDS) after identifying a critical remote code execution vulnerability tracked as CVE-2026-0386. The flaw exposes enterprise environments to potential attacks during operating system deployment processes, prompting Microsoft to introduce security mitigations and ultimately retire the vulnerable functionality. Windows Deployment Services is widely used by enterprise IT teams to deploy Windows operating systems across networks using PXE (Preboot Execution Environment). Through this capability, administrators can install operating systems remotely without physical access to machines. One of its most popular features hands-free deployment automates the installation process using an Unattend.xml configuration file. This file predefines installation settings, including system configuration details and administrative credentials, allowing organizations to deploy operating systems across large device fleets quickly and efficiently.

Brand Covered: Meta

Headline: Meta to End End-to-End Encryption for Instagram Messages

Meta has announced that it will discontinue end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for Instagram Direct Messages starting , ending the platform’s short-lived experiment with encrypted private messaging. The decision has sparked concern among privacy advocates and cybersecurity experts who warn it could reduce protections for users communicating on the platform.  Meta has updated Instagram’s help documentation and begun sending in-app notifications to users confirming that encrypted messaging will no longer be supported after the May 2026 deadline. The company originally introduced optional end-to-end encrypted chats in December 2023, allowing users to manually enable encryption for specific conversations rather than making it the default setting. After the cutoff date, existing encrypted conversations will no longer operate as protected E2EE sessions. All new messages sent through Instagram Direct Messages will be transmitted without the additional cryptographic layer previously used to secure those chats.
