Akamai Technologies has announced a significant milestone by securing a new data communications contract with the State of Montana. This agreement is designed to simplify how public sector organizations—including government agencies, local bodies, and educational institutions—access advanced cloud computing and cybersecurity solutions.

In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, public sector entities face a dual challenge. On one hand, they must defend against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. On the other, they often struggle with lengthy and complex procurement processes. However, this newly awarded contract directly addresses both concerns by offering a streamlined and pre-approved pathway for acquiring critical technology solutions.

More importantly, the contract introduces a “pre-competed” procurement model. This approach allows eligible organizations to bypass traditional bidding hurdles, thereby accelerating the deployment of essential security upgrades and scalable cloud infrastructure. As a result, agencies can respond more quickly to emerging threats while improving operational efficiency.

“Government agencies and schools need immediate access to industry-leading cloud and security tools without the administrative hurdles of traditional bidding,” said Rob San Martin, Vice President, Public Sector, Akamai. “By securing this contract, Akamai is simplifying the roadmap for Montana’s digital leaders. We provide the essential cloud infrastructure and security architecture that both protects citizen data and helps enable government services for resilience, scalability, and performance.”

Furthermore, this contract opens new opportunities across multiple sectors. For state and local agencies, it ensures compliance with mandatory procurement requirements while enabling faster implementation of security measures. Meanwhile, educational institutions—from K-12 schools to higher education—can now modernize their digital infrastructure more efficiently and safeguard sensitive student information.

In addition, the agreement extends beyond Montana. Other U.S. states can also leverage this contract through reciprocal agreements, allowing them to diversify their technology ecosystems with greater flexibility and cost efficiency. This broader applicability significantly enhances the contract’s value and reach.

To support implementation, Akamai will collaborate with Carahsoft Technology Corp.. Through this partnership, Carahsoft will facilitate order fulfillment and provide technical expertise to participating agencies, ensuring smooth adoption of Akamai’s solutions.

“Carahsoft stands ready to help agencies maximize the value of this new contract,” said Andres Azcuna, Sales Director, Carahsoft Technologies. “By adding Akamai’s portfolio to this Montana vehicle, we give our public sector customers a proven, competitive edge in securing their digital transformation initiatives.”

Overall, this initiative represents a strategic step forward in modernizing public sector technology procurement. By simplifying access to advanced cloud and security solutions, Akamai is enabling government organizations to strengthen resilience, enhance performance, and better protect critical data.
