Hello, CyberTech community. Welcome to part #29 of the CyberTech Top Voice interview series with Bill Robbins, President at Menlo Security.

As President of Menlo Security, my focus is on scaling global operations and delivering exceptional workspace security solutions. In 2025, cybersecurity will revolve around the browser—where people work and interact daily. Secure Enterprise Browsers will become the norm, ensuring seamless, cloud-based protection. Our acquisition of Votiro strengthens this vision by integrating advanced file and data security, enhancing our AI-driven solutions across SaaS and CSP. Together, we’re building a frictionless, highly secure work environment that safeguards users, data, and enterprises everywhere.

Step into the future of cybersecurity! Discover how Bill Robbins, President of Menlo Security, is redefining secure workspaces in 2025—where the browser becomes the new security perimeter.

Please tell us about your role at Menlo Security and your vision for the cybertech industry in 2025.

As Menlo Security’s President, I’m here to ensure we’re delivering on our promise of Workspace Security, and doing it at scale. This involves overseeing all revenue-generating and operational aspects, from sales and marketing to product development and customer success. My focus is on scaling our global operations and ensuring we deliver exceptional results for our customers.

Now, looking ahead to 2025, I see a big shift in how we think about cybersecurity. The browser is where everyone lives and works. So, it needs to be the focal point of security. We’re talking about a world where Secure Enterprise Browsers are the norm, not the exception. Imagine, you can work from anywhere, access anything, without the worry about security. That’s what we’re building. Cloud-based solutions will be key, making security seamless and adaptable.

What was the idea behind acquiring Votiro? How would this acquisition impact the cybertech industry?

Menlo has partnered with Votiro for many years – we have had a number of shared customers and we know from this experience their technology is well-constructed, user-friendly and highly effective. Votiro’s approach to data and file security meshes seamlessly with our vision to secure the entire modern workspace, including browsers, applications and collaboration tools. Acquiring Votiro was the right move for Menlo because the solution and their approach to security aligns perfectly with our own philosophies, and now we can deliver a complete workspace security solution to our customers while ensuring our product roadmaps remain aligned going forward.

Could you please tell us how the new force would benefit the customers? Which specific areas in cybersecurity would you focus in Browser security and File Security categories?

By integrating Votiro’s file and data security platform with Menlo’s secure enterprise browser suite, we will offer customers a comprehensive workspace security solution that secures the modern worker, wherever they are, and adapts to how they work. This means high security efficacy and a frictionless user experience which is a critical differentiator in today’s work environment. Additionally, Votiro has made significant progress in using AI for data security which will allow us to help customers secure their information in a more effective and efficient manner than today’s legacy DLP solutions.

Explain Menlo Security’s AI technology stack and how Votiro would add strength to workspace security solution across SaaS and CSP.

Menlo’s AI technology stack uses an open-source engine for computer vision for our HEAT Shield product. In addition, other feature capabilities leverage Google Gemini for security, policy, and log analysis. Votiro leverages AI to dynamically recognize PII/PHI and based on policy redact it to protect enterprise data. This capability has the potential to disrupt the static DLP methods used in the enterprise today. The ability to dynamically detect and protect enterprise data is very much applicable to the web channel as people browse to various websites and interact with AI-chatbots and other web forms. The joint solution with the combined AI stack can apply security and privacy protection to web, email, file storage, productivity and collaboration channels ensuring users and data is proactively protected everywhere work gets done.

Which certification programs would you recommend to young cybersecurity professionals and why?

CompTIA Security+ serves as an educational gateway, providing a comprehensive understanding of core security principles. By delving into areas like risk management and network security, learners gain the knowledge necessary to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities within browser environments and workspace infrastructures.

Similarly, the (ISC)² Certified in Cybersecurity functions as an introductory course, establishing a baseline understanding of cybersecurity concepts. This foundational knowledge is essential for anyone responsible for safeguarding organizational data.

Furthermore, Cloud Security Certifications from providers like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud offer specialized education in securing cloud-based platforms. As browser and workspace solutions increasingly operate within cloud environments, these certifications provide structured learning paths for mastering the complexities of cloud security.

Thank you Bill,  for speaking to us. We look forward to having you again at CyberTech Insights.
