F5 Elevates to Gold Membership in CNCF To Advance Cloud Native Innovation

As cloud native technologies power modern applications and AI workloads, F5 CNCF Gold Membership signals a deeper commitment to open source innovation and secure multicloud infrastructure.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation has announced that F5 has elevated its membership to Gold, strengthening its role in advancing cloud native ecosystems. The move reflects F5’s growing investment in open source technologies and its focus on enabling secure, scalable application delivery across hybrid and multicloud environments.

F5, known for its application delivery and security solutions, has been an active contributor to CNCF projects, including Kubernetes Ingress, Gateway API innovations, and OpenTelemetry. The company is also the corporate sponsor of NGINX, a widely used open source web server and reverse proxy that plays a critical role in modern application architectures.

By upgrading to Gold Membership, F5 is positioning itself to collaborate more closely with other industry leaders within the CNCF community. This level of participation enables deeper involvement in shaping standards, contributing to key projects, and accelerating innovation across cloud native infrastructure.

“Expanding to Gold Membership in the CNCF reflects our dedication to fostering innovation and collaboration in the cloud native ecosystem,” said Kunal Anand, chief product officer at F5. “F5 holds a deep heritage of open source from its careful stewardship of the NGINX project. With the CNCF, we aim to empower organizations with the tools they need to deliver not only today’s workloads but openly develop the tools for delivering modern AI-workloads on Kubernetes which the CNCF has reported as being the standard AI platform. This aligns with our broader vision to simplify the complexities of modern application infrastructures.”

F5’s contributions extend beyond core networking capabilities. The company is actively involved in enhancing service mesh technologies, such as Istio, and driving advancements in real time application telemetry. These efforts aim to improve visibility, reliability, and performance across distributed systems, particularly as organizations adopt cloud native and AI driven workloads.

“Inference relies on scalable infrastructure, which is a fundamentally cloud native challenge enabled by CNCF technologies,” said Jonathan Bryce, executive director, CNCF. “It’s exciting to see F5 increase their investment into the ecosystem, as their leadership on projects like NGINX, Gateway API, and OpenTelemetry is necessary for delivering secure, scalable AI inference workloads reliably to production.”

The announcement comes as enterprises increasingly rely on Kubernetes as the foundation for deploying both traditional and AI applications. With the rise of edge computing and AI inference workloads, the need for secure, low latency, and highly scalable infrastructure is becoming more critical.

As a CNCF Gold Member, F5 joins a global network of organizations driving the future of cloud native computing. The enhanced collaboration is expected to accelerate development across open source platforms while supporting emerging technologies such as AI and edge computing.

By strengthening its engagement with the CNCF, F5 CNCF Gold Membership highlights a broader industry trend toward open collaboration and innovation. The move reinforces F5’s role in shaping the future of cloud native infrastructure while helping organizations navigate the complexities of modern application delivery and security.
