For its approximately 50,000 students, the Midwest institution supports hundreds of undergraduate, master’s degree and doctoral programs across multiple campuses. Finding itself the target of DDoS attacks, the institution decided to make an architectural shift, adopting a hybrid environment that offered more operational and financial flexibility.

“With hacktivist collectives focusing their attention on civilian institutions, schools and universities worldwide have become frequent targets of DDoS attacks,” said Yoav Gazelle, Radware’s chief business officer. “The increased use of remote learning, connected learning, and technology devices has expanded the attack surface, leaving schools even more vulnerable to attack. To reduce the risk of compromise, schools must invest in stronger, more proactive cybersecurity controls and automated protections.”

The evolving threat landscape of DDoS attacks has created heightened security risks for education institutions. According to Radware’s recent Global Threat Analysis Report, average DDoS volume blocked per organization during the first half of 2024 grew by 116% in the Americas, compared to the same period in 2023.

Radware’s AI-powered Cloud DDoS Protection Service is designed to automatically identify and surgically block harmful traffic without disrupting legitimate requests. Using advanced behavioral algorithms, the solution adapts DDoS defenses based on the specific attacker. It not only mitigates DDoS attacks but also safeguards the network, optimizes application performance, and maintains availability during attacks. The solution can be deployed to suit on-demand, always-on or hybrid deployment models.

Radware has received numerous awards for its DDoS mitigation, application and API protection, web application firewall, and bot detection and management solutions. Industry analysts such as Aite-Novarica Group, Forrester Research, Gartner, GigaOm, IDC, KuppingerCole, and Quadrant Knowledge Solutions continue to recognize Radware as a market leader in cyber security.
