North Pole Security has announced a $4 million seed funding round to advance its innovative approach to enterprise-grade endpoint protection specifically tailored for macOS systems. The investment, led by renowned venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, will fuel the company’s market expansion and enhance its flagship product, Workshop, aimed at proactive threat prevention.

“With macOS gaining significant traction in enterprise environments, there’s a pressing need for purpose-built security solutions,” said Pete Markowsky, CEO and co-founder of North Pole Security. “Currently, one in five business endpoints in the U.S. runs on macOS, yet most organizations still lack a dedicated security strategy for it. Workshop empowers security teams to lock down macOS devices at scale—without compromising user experience or introducing complexity.”

Traditional endpoint detection tools often fall short against today’s sophisticated threats, which frequently leverage legitimate system utilities, steal credentials, or mimic authorized activity to avoid detection. The emergence of AI-powered workflows and automatically generated code only compounds the problem, accelerating the pace and stealth of cyberattacks. These trends have outpaced reactive security tools like legacy EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response).

Workshop offers a new model—one focused on prevention-first through a reengineered allowlisting system. Unlike legacy solutions perceived as too rigid for enterprise use, Workshop introduces automation, intelligent safety controls, and user-friendly approval processes that make allowlisting both scalable and practical. This ensures threats are blocked proactively—before any damage is done.

At its core, Workshop is built on Santa, the widely-used open-source binary authorization framework originally developed at Google. The team behind North Pole Security played a central role in Santa’s creation and continues to maintain the project, bringing deep expertise and credibility to the platform.

Key Features of Workshop include:

  • Proactive threat prevention architecture to stop unknown applications before execution
  • Real-time policy enforcement to apply changes instantly across endpoints
  • Device control for USB and SD media to block unauthorized hardware use
  • Comprehensive telemetry offering detailed visibility into endpoint activity

Markowsky added, “We’ve collaborated closely with top-tier enterprise design partners, including Fortune 500 companies, to ensure Workshop delivers robust protection without disrupting operations. Enterprises no longer have to choose between strong defense and workflow efficiency.”

With this new funding, North Pole Security is positioned to redefine how organizations secure macOS environments—meeting modern threats with modern solutions that are both scalable and proactive.
