A cyberattack on Mobile Guardian, a popular classroom management platform, has resulted in the catastrophic loss of data on thousands of school devices. The breach, which occurred on Sunday, affected schools in North America, Europe, and Singapore.
While Mobile Guardian claims only a “small percentage” of global devices were impacted, Singapore has been hit particularly hard. Over 13,000 iPads and Chromebooks across more than two dozen secondary schools were remotely wiped, forcing the government to completely remove the platform from all educational institutions.
The attack has raised serious concerns about the security of educational technology and the potential vulnerability of student data. Despite the extensive damage, Mobile Guardian insists no user data was compromised. However, the company has yet to provide details on the global scale of the incident, leaving many schools and parents in the dark.
As investigations continue, questions remain about how such a widespread attack could occur and what measures will be put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Mobile Guardian Issues and Data Loss
Mobile Guardian experienced significant problems in late July and early August. Initially, there were technical difficulties, including Wi-Fi connection issues and iPad problems, caused by a configuration error on the platform.
However, the security breach that occurred on August 4th was more serious, resulting in the remote wiping of thousands of student devices. In response, the Ministry of Education (MOE) swiftly removed the Mobile Guardian app from all student devices as a precautionary measure.
While most data was recovered from cloud backups, some devices with locally stored, unbacked-up information suffered permanent data loss.
Devices to be restored by 16th August
The Ministry of Education (MOE) has been working diligently to resolve the device issues caused by the Mobile Guardian incident. Additional IT support has been deployed to schools to assist students in restoring their devices. For students who prefer to troubleshoot independently, step-by-step guides have been made available. has announced that all devices impacted by the Mobile Guardian issues will be fully restored by August 16th.
