One of the largest online learning and teaching marketplaces of the world, Udemy, has just testified the return of Eren Bali as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) from August 12, 2024. Eren Bali, the co-founder of Udemy in 2010 and its CEO until 2014, was taking over from Venu Venugopal, who has been CTO since May 2019. Venugopal will now be assuming an advisory role to ensure a smooth transition.
Bali will report to Greg Brown, President and CEO of Udemy, and lead the company’s engineering, data, and technical program management teams. In his new role, Bali is expected to work in close unison with Chief Product Officer Prasad Raje toward leading the product strategy at Udemy, driving the enterprise growth agenda, and continuing to bring new innovative responses to the company’s direct-to-consumer offerings. Bali has also resigned from the Board of Directors of Udemy to focus on his CTO role.

Bali was enthusiastic about returning to Udemy, citing the mission to democratize education through Udemy and new possibilities that Generative AI opens up. “I am excited to rejoin Udemy and partner with Greg, Prasad, and the rest of the leadership team to accelerate innovation and advance our vision for Udemy,” said Bali.
Brown also recognised leadership when he saw it, mentioning the world-class engineering team Venugopal built and his other major contributions to Udemy’s growth. “We are thankful for Venu’s dedication and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” Brown added.
Most recently, Bali was co-founder and CEO of Carbon Health Technologies, founded in 2015. Bali sits on the boards of both Carbon Health Technologies and Firefly Systems. He received his bachelor’s in computer engineering and mathematics from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Türkiye.
