The platform creates a bridge between academia, defense science, SMEs, and industry, transforming the landscape of national security innovation.

Nebula’s ready-to-use tools will enable researchers to collaborate seamlessly with the industry, significantly speeding up project timelines. The platform’s capabilities will support the development of advanced technologies in areas like software architecture, autonomous systems, and human factors while ensuring that all work remains secure within Australia.

Powered by Microsoft’s sovereign PROTECTED Azure and security platforms, Nebula offers high-performance computing, data modeling, and 

AI capabilities. Over the next 12 months, Nebula is expected to:

  • Boost contributions from academics, researchers, and SMEs to Australia’s innovation ecosystem.
  • Provide a secure framework for collaboration on dual-use technologies.
  • Drastically reduce the time for academic institutions and SMEs to achieve Defence Industry Security Program accreditation.
  • Create 20 new cybersecurity jobs in Western Australia.

Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne emphasized the importance of secure and reliable connections for researchers while CyberCX CEO John Paitaridis highlighted the need for more affordable and secure research collaboration. Together, they believe Nebula will empower Australia’s research institutions to drive innovation and secure the nation’s future.
