Menlo Park-based data protection company Confidencial has unveiled Cloud Protector, an innovative data protection platform designed around data-centric zero-trust fundamentals that enables organizations to manage the security and compliance of sensitive unstructured data while enabling teams to leverage it for business-critical workflows and collaboration.

Cloud Protector represents a much-needed iteration on DSPM and DLP solutions, moving beyond compliance-driven discovery and folder-level access to deliver proactive, persistent, and granular data management and security. Traditional approaches stop at identifying risk–Cloud Protector takes action by eliminating exposure with patented fine-grain encryption that stays with the data—even beyond your infrastructure. Combining compliance fundamentals with built-in Information Rights Management (IRM), it ensures continuous protection while enabling secure and compliant AI adoption, as well as robust data governance—an area of focus in recent standards such as ISO/IEC 42001:2023.
From deeper discovery and automated remediation, Cloud Protector finds regulated data and secrets across 60+ unstructured file formats on-prem and in the cloud. A RETURN TO ROOTS
The solution was launched at a day-long event, co-hosted with InfraGard along with security industry leaders. The event was a notable homecoming for Confidencial, as Cloud Protector is built on IP first developed at SRI through DARPA-funded projects focused on secure, privacy-preserving data sharing and resilience against large-scale compromise.
The significance of launching at SRI was not lost on Confidencial CTO and co-founder Karim Eldefrawy: “We’re hoping that one day, people look back at SRI as the birthplace of the technology that truly moved the needle on data protection.”

Cloud Protector uniquely focuses on identifying and securing unstructured data, which comprises 90% of an enterprise’s total inventory and is notoriously difficult to manage and protect, especially when it comes to complex data like intellectual property and trade secrets.
