Brazil’s Navy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based defense group EDGE to enhance its cyber defense capabilities as digital threats targeting military systems continue to rise. The agreement, signed in São Paulo, marks a strategic step toward strengthening the security of naval networks, systems, and critical maritime infrastructure.
The collaboration focuses on building a more resilient cyber posture across Brazil’s naval operations. As modern warfare increasingly depends on interconnected digital systems, safeguarding these environments has become a top priority for defense organizations worldwide.
Under the terms of the agreement, EDGE and the Brazilian Navy will explore the establishment of a dedicated cyber defense unit. This initiative is expected to support the development of advanced monitoring and protection tools specifically designed for naval environments, ensuring greater visibility and faster response to potential cyber threats.
A key area of focus will be the protection of operational technology (OT) used in ships and maritime systems. These systems, which control critical onboard functions, are increasingly targeted by cyberattacks due to their strategic importance and often complex integration with IT networks.

In 2024, the Brazilian Armed Forces joined participants from 30 countries in one of the largest cyber defense exercises in the Southern Hemisphere.
