Bol.com is investigating claims of a potential data breach after a Dark Web Informer reported that a dataset containing approximately 400,000 customer records was allegedly offered for sale on a cybercrime forum. The claim surfaced on platform X, where the organization highlighted concerns around the possible exposure of customer information linked to the popular e-commerce platform.

According to the post, the seller – operating under the name Jeffrey Epstein – alleges that the dataset includes data from customers in Belgium. The individual further claims that the information belongs to Bol.com’s broader customer base, which is estimated to include around 14 million users. The dataset is said to contain a mix of personal and account-related details, raising concerns about potential misuse if verified.

The allegedly leaked data reportedly includes usernames, email addresses, phone numbers, and additional personal information such as names, physical addresses, and dates of birth. It is also claimed to feature account-level insights, including last login activity. Some references suggest the presence of identification numbers, although the exact nature of this data remains unclear.

Bol.com has responded to the claims, stating that it currently has no evidence indicating a security breach within its systems. The company confirmed that it is actively investigating the situation but emphasized that its infrastructure is operating normally, with no signs of a hack, data breach, or ransomware attack detected so far.

At this stage, there is no confirmation that the dataset being advertised originates from Bol.com’s systems. The company has urged caution, as data circulating on underground forums is not always linked to recent incidents and may include outdated, aggregated, or even inaccurate information.

Despite the uncertainty, the nature of the alleged dataset could pose potential risks if proven authentic. Exposed personal and contact information may increase the likelihood of targeted phishing campaigns, identity theft attempts, or other forms of cyber fraud.

The situation highlights the growing challenge organizations face in addressing claims emerging from dark web sources, where the authenticity of data leaks can be difficult to verify. As investigations continue, Bol.com’s response will be critical in determining whether this incident represents a genuine security concern or an unverified claim circulating within cybercriminal communities.
