Investment aims to boost GDP, enhance cloud infrastructure with generative AI for security incident response
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea has unveiled a major investment and security innovation strategy, committing to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure while introducing generative AI-powered agents for security incident investigations. The announcement highlights AWS’s growing focus on strengthening both technological capabilities and cybersecurity resilience in South Korea.
The company disclosed that it will invest an additional 7 trillion Korean won between 2025 and 2031 to scale its AI and cloud infrastructure in the country. Combined with its existing investment of 5.6 trillion Korean won, AWS Korea’s total commitment will reach 12.6 trillion Korean won – marking the largest investment ever made by a global cloud service provider in South Korea. The company also projects that its operations will contribute approximately 15.06 trillion Korean won to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) between 2023 and 2027.
Alongside infrastructure expansion, AWS Korea is advancing its cybersecurity capabilities through the adoption of generative AI. Its “AWS Security Incident Response” service, launched in November last year, leverages AI agents to autonomously investigate security incidents and accelerate response times. These AI-driven agents are designed to enhance threat detection and streamline incident analysis, reducing the burden on security teams.
A key feature within this framework is IAM Access Analysis, which enables organizations to identify and monitor access users more effectively. This capability supports enterprises in maintaining visibility across their environments while ensuring secure and controlled access to critical systems and data. The integration of AI into security operations also aligns with the growing demand for intelligent automation in managing complex cyber threats.
AWS Korea has further strengthened its security posture by advancing its zero-trust architecture and introducing 114 additional security control functions over the past year. The company has also mandated multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all account types, reinforcing identity protection and reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
Ham Kiho, Chief Executive Officer of AWS Korea, emphasized that information security remains the company’s top priority. He stated that AWS will continue to invest in building a secure foundation that enables South Korean organizations to confidently adopt AI technologies while maintaining strong security standards.
As enterprises increasingly embrace AI-driven transformation, AWS Korea’s combined focus on infrastructure investment and intelligent security solutions positions it as a key player in supporting the country’s digital growth.
