Keeper Security has introduced its new Agent Kit, a solution designed to address one of the biggest concerns in modern AI-driven development keeping sensitive credentials safe while using AI tools. As developers increasingly rely on AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Codex, the risk of exposing API keys, database credentials, and other privileged information has grown significantly.
Traditionally, developers had to input these secrets directly into AI chat interfaces to complete tasks, unknowingly leaving them stored in logs or external systems. Keeper’s Agent Kit changes this approach by allowing AI agents to securely interact with its encrypted command-line tools. Instead of revealing sensitive data, the system retrieves and uses credentials locally within a protected environment, ensuring they never appear in chat histories or third-party datasets.
According to Craig Lurey, CTO and Co-founder of Keeper Security, the goal is to create a safer framework for how AI tools access enterprise data. By running commands within a developer’s authenticated session, the Agent Kit maintains a zero-knowledge architecture while still delivering the speed and efficiency developers expect from AI.
The solution is built to fit naturally into modern development workflows. It enables AI agents to fetch secrets securely during runtime, manage administrative tasks such as user access and auditing, and even automate the setup of secure environments for new projects. This means developers can focus on building and innovating without worrying about accidentally exposing critical information.
Keeper has also considered teams working in cloud-based or orchestrated AI environments. For them, the company provides integration through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, allowing secure communication between AI agents and infrastructure without relying solely on local tools. Every action performed by an AI agent is tracked and controlled using the same strict access policies applied to human users.
Jeremy London, Director of Engineering for AI and Threat Analytics at Keeper, emphasized that organizations should not have to sacrifice security for speed. With the Agent Kit, AI evolves from being just a helpful assistant into a trusted partner that operates within defined security boundaries. By ensuring that credentials are never directly exposed—even to the AI itself—Keeper aims to close a major security gap in today’s development landscape.
