Eviden, the Atos Group’s mission-critical systems brand, has successfully deployed its ARPEGE RADAR surface-to-air threat simulation system during a Tactical Leadership Program (TLP) exercise organized by NATO. The exercise took place in November at the Los Llanos air base near Albacete, Spain, providing fighter pilots with immersive simulated environments designed to mirror real operational scenarios.

The deployment highlights Eviden’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet NATO’s operational needs in high-intensity environments. Developed by Eviden’s Avantix business, ARPEGE has been in active service since 2022, including operations at the French Electronic Warfare Polygon, and is now integrated into NATO training programs at Los Llanos. The system combines a central command post with remote light vehicles equipped with radar signal generators and tracking antennas. Together, they simulate realistic radar threats, illuminating aircraft in flight and triggering pilots’ onboard self-protection systems.

During exercises, pilots are evaluated on their responses, including evasive maneuvers, deployment of countermeasures such as decoys or jamming, and execution of simulated air-to-ground attacks. By simulating authentic radar threats, ARPEGE allows aircrews to refine operational decision-making and enhance readiness for real-world missions.

Designed for mobility and flexibility, ARPEGE can be rapidly deployed as a networked system, connecting multiple vehicles to a central operations control center. Its modular design ensures adaptability across different training areas and operational requirements, enabling NATO forces to scale scenarios according to specific mission needs.

ARPEGE is a key component of Avantix’s Mobile Radar Threat Simulator (MRTS) portfolio, a family of solutions capable of simulating next-generation radar signals and systems. MRTS solutions provide air forces with the ability to implement complex, highly realistic training scenarios tailored to emerging threats, enhancing both defensive preparedness and tactical proficiency.

Bernard Payer, Managing Director of Eviden Mission Critical Systems and President of Avantix, commented: “With this ARPEGE system deployed as part of this exercise, we are particularly proud to put our expertise in the electromagnetic spectrum at the service of NATO fighter pilots’ operational excellence.”

This deployment underscores Eviden’s commitment to supporting NATO and allied forces with advanced, mission-ready simulation technology that strengthens training effectiveness and ensures aircrews are fully prepared for modern threat environments.
