Welcome to the CyberTechnology Top Voice Interview Series!

Today, we speak with Scott, a seasoned IT security leader, about his industry experience, industry insights, and predictions on cybersecurity technologies and trends. From navigating AvePoint’s journey from startup to IPO to the evolving challenges in SaaS optimization and cybersecurity, Scott shares valuable expertise. We also discuss the impact of AI, major industry challenges across healthcare, life sciences, and manufacturing, and what’s next for cyber resilience in 2025.

Hi Scott, welcome to the CyberTechnology Top Voice Interview Series. Please tell us about your most profound experience in the IT security industry.

My most profound experience has been going through the successful IPO of AvePoint – as I’ve been with the company from start up to a global, publicly traded company, and have seen both the evolution of our platform as well as the challenges our customers and partners were facing. Having that context really allows you to appreciate the sophistication and scale that both the technology and customer support needs to have, to make an impact in the world.

Exclusive Guide: 5 Must-Haves for a Process Intelligence Solution Today

If your role was a novel/ TV/ movie character, which one would you pick and why?

Great question!  Let’s go with Macgyver. In business, we are always tinkering, creating, and experimenting to solve the problems of the day, and there is never enough time to do it!

What are the core objectives of the AvePoint-Ydentic deal? How would this fusion benefit the customers?

AvePoint’s acquisition of Ydentic will drive the continued evolution of our AI-powered Elements Platform for MSPs. Ydentic provides intelligent software that automates IT management tasks, enhances processes, and enables full control for customers – driving greater MSP profitability, increased operational efficiency, scalability, and new security-centric recurring revenue streams for our shared customers.

Combined with Ydentic’s solutions, we’re looking forward to offering our shared clients an expanded range of AI-driven cybersecurity and IT management capabilities.

How does AvePoint help customers with SaaS optimization and management?

AvePoint is a global leader in data security, governance, and resilience – helping businesses modernize their digital workplace and prepare and secure data for AI implementation across Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, and other cloud collaboration platforms.

As AvePoint’s own research finds that more than 45% of organizations experience data exposures when implementing AI, our solutions are mission-critical in today’s business environment. With the growth of AI technology and adoption, the advent of remote work, bring your own device policies, and ever-expanding SaaS applications and collaboration platforms in use, organizations need more intelligent solutions to manage sprawling data and secure their workplace. AvePoint’s solutions for SaaS management enable businesses to scale growth and adopt AI safely while maintaining operational efficiency – and mitigate data security risks associated with snowballing SaaS application and workplace data.

Could you please tell us about the most challenging part of SaaS Ops in these industries:

  • Healthcare: In healthcare environments, providers must consider and prioritize patient data security and strict compliance regulations (like HIPPA and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act in the U.S) when evaluating/implementing SaaS platforms. Healthcare agencies also have unique needs when it comes to integration with legacy technology, and how to best modernize the digital environment – as these systems are often outdated and fragmented across facilities and devices.
  • Life sciences: Organizations within the life sciences sector face similar challenges regarding compliance and data security in their SaaS and IT operations – working with highly sensitive data surrounding research, clinical trials and drug development. Complying with FDA guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the US also presents challenges, as SaaS providers must ensure that their solutions meet these strict standards for data security and use.
  • Manufacturing: Manufacturers across sectors must ensure that production and inventory data, for example, is properly governed, managed and classified – to avoid delays in workflow or production. In addition, many facilities may still rely on legacy, on-prem operating systems. SaaS solutions in this sector must be simple to use to ensure employees are able to adopt new operating systems quickly and be equipped to help break down data silos and facilitate more secure and efficient information sharing.

What are your predictions for the cyber tech market in 2025?

Cyber and ransomware threats continue to become more pervasive and damaging by the year – with 36% of recently surveyed businesses reporting that they experienced a data breach of more than US$1M in 2024 (increasing significantly from 27% year over year).

As this trend continues, the market for cyber and AI-powered data security and resilience solutions will skyrocket in 2025. Protecting data from ransomware threat starts with hardening cyber resilience, data governance and security practices – and organizations of all sizes must adopt the solutions needed to protect their IT environment from risk of breach. In response to evolving and advanced threat, we’ll also see cyber and data security technology providers enhance their platforms to manage evolving risk and AI-powered threats.
