The International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) has released new exam guidance outlining how artificial intelligence (AI) security concepts are being integrated across its entire cybersecurity certification portfolio. The move reflects the growing importance of securing AI systems as organizations increasingly adopt AI-driven technologies.
The newly introduced Exam Guidance for Artificial Intelligence is designed to help exam candidates and employers understand how AI-related security concepts are embedded within ISC2 certification exam outlines. It highlights the evolving expectations for cybersecurity professionals, who are now required to manage risks associated with AI systems alongside traditional security challenges.
A central feature of the guidance is its comprehensive mapping of AI security concepts across more than 50 core cybersecurity domains covered within ISC2 certifications. This ensures that AI-related knowledge is not treated as a standalone topic but is integrated throughout multiple areas of cybersecurity practice.
The guidance is the result of a three-year exam refresh cycle, which included job task analysis, exam blueprint development, item writing, peer review, and standard setting. Industry practitioners and certified subject matter experts played a key role in validating that the updated exams align with real-world cybersecurity requirements in an AI-driven landscape.
ISC2 emphasized that AI security will continue to evolve within its certification frameworks. Experts involved in the process will regularly update exam blueprints to incorporate emerging AI-focused tasks and security considerations, ensuring that certifications remain relevant and aligned with industry needs.
Casey Marks, Chief Operating Officer at ISC2, highlighted the importance of adapting certification standards to reflect changing job roles. He noted that securing AI systems is becoming a critical competency and that candidates will increasingly be expected to demonstrate their ability to address AI-related security risks.
Beyond certification exams, ISC2 is also expanding its continuing education offerings to include AI-focused learning opportunities. These include an AI security certificate, specialized courses, research initiatives, and peer-developed resources aimed at sharing best practices in securing AI technologies.
By embedding AI across both its certification and training programs, ISC2 aims to equip cybersecurity professionals with the skills needed to navigate an increasingly AI-centric threat landscape. The organization stated that professionals earning its certifications can be confident in their ability to stay competitive and advance their careers as demand for AI security expertise continues to grow.
ISC2 remains the world’s largest cybersecurity membership organization, with more than 265,000 certified members and associates globally, reinforcing its role in shaping the future of cybersecurity education and workforce development.
