As organizations rapidly embed AI into everyday operations, Zapier has introduced “AI Guardrails by Zapier,” a new capability designed to enforce real-time safety checks within automated workflows. With this launch, the company aims to bridge the growing gap between AI adoption and trust by ensuring outputs are validated before reaching critical business systems.
As AI usage expands across tools like CRMs, databases, and customer communication channels, concerns around data security and output reliability have intensified. However, many organizations still rely on static policies rather than enforceable controls. Therefore, AI Guardrails addresses this challenge by embedding safety mechanisms directly into workflows, enabling teams to detect risks before AI-generated content is used or shared.
“Every company using AI in production has the same question: how do we know the outputs are clean before they hit our systems?” said Brandon Sammut, Chief People & AI Transformation Officer. “AI Guardrails gives teams an actual enforcement layer, not a policy document sitting in a shared drive somewhere. It runs inline, in production, on every single workflow that needs it.”
Moreover, AI Guardrails operates seamlessly within Zapier’s ecosystem, including Zaps, Agents, and MCP-connected tools. After an AI model generates output, the system automatically evaluates it against selected safety checks and returns structured results. As a result, teams can route, block, or escalate content using built-in logic without writing any code.
In addition, the platform introduces a comprehensive set of detection capabilities designed to address real-world AI risks. For instance, its PII detection feature scans for more than 30 types of sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers, credit card details, and email addresses, ensuring that confidential data does not move downstream. At the same time, prompt injection blocking and jailbreak detection help prevent malicious attempts to manipulate AI models or bypass built-in safeguards.
Furthermore, AI Guardrails enhances content moderation by identifying toxic or harmful language, including hate speech and threats, before it is published or stored. It also includes sentiment analysis, allowing teams to evaluate the tone of AI-generated or user-submitted content and route negative responses for human review when necessary. Consequently, organizations can maintain higher standards of communication quality and compliance.
Unlike traditional approaches that depend on manual reviews or documentation, Zapier’s solution integrates safety checks directly into the execution layer of automation. This ensures that every AI-driven action is validated in real time, reducing the risk of errors, data leaks, or reputational damage. Additionally, the structured output generated by each check enables organizations to build automated decision-making processes around safety outcomes.
“The conversation around AI safety usually stops at ‘we wrote a policy,'” said Sammut. “What teams actually need is something that runs in the background and catches problems before they become incidents. That’s what this does.”
Ultimately, AI Guardrails reflects a broader shift toward operationalizing AI governance. By embedding security and compliance directly into workflows, Zapier is enabling organizations to scale AI adoption with confidence while minimizing risk. As businesses continue to automate complex processes, solutions like AI Guardrails will play a critical role in ensuring that innovation does not come at the cost of trust and control.
