WALT Labs has announced the launch of Cloud Companion, a major upgrade and rebranding of its WALT Carbon platform, designed to improve how organizations manage and optimize their cloud spending on Google Cloud. The new platform represents a complete redesign rather than a simple rebrand, introducing a refreshed interface, a rebuilt analytics engine, and new AI-driven capabilities. Cloud Companion is part of WALT Labs’ broader Companion suite and is built to provide deeper visibility into cloud usage while simplifying cost management for both technical and financial teams.

As cloud environments grow more complex, many organizations struggle with overspending and limited visibility into usage patterns. Traditional tools often require navigating multiple dashboards to answer basic cost-related questions. Cloud Companion aims to address these challenges by consolidating analytics, automation, and insights into a single platform.

According to Stewart Smith, Vice President of Technology at WALT Labs, the company rebuilt key components of the platform to improve speed, usability, and analytical depth. Enhancements include advanced BigQuery analytics, more accurate cost reporting, and embedded optimization recommendations.

A key feature of Cloud Companion is its AI-powered natural language interface, which allows users to query cloud spending data using simple prompts. This eliminates the need for manual filtering and enables faster access to actionable insights. The platform also provides real-time cost optimization suggestions, including identifying unused resources, commitment opportunities, and anomalies, each accompanied by estimated savings and confidence levels.

In addition, the platform introduces a redesigned user experience across more than 16 pages, unified navigation, and improved performance through technologies such as Redis caching. The updated analytics engine enables users to analyze cost, query activity, and resource usage within a single view, with the ability to drill down into specific queries or workloads. Cloud Companion also enhances security operations with an updated Security Center and improves billing accuracy by aligning reported spend with Google Cloud console data.

WALT Labs emphasized that cloud cost management is increasingly becoming a financial discipline rather than just an operational concern. By providing real-time visibility and actionable insights, the platform helps organizations reduce waste, improve efficiency, and make more informed decisions about their cloud investments. Cloud Companion is now available, with existing WALT Carbon customers being automatically migrated as part of the rollout.
