IBM has announced that 11 of its artificial intelligence and automation software solutions many from its watsonx portfolio—have achieved Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) authorization. The milestone was enabled through a strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The authorized solutions are deployed exclusively on AWS GovCloud (U.S.), allowing federal agencies to securely access advanced AI and automation capabilities while meeting strict government compliance requirements without managing underlying infrastructure.
Vanessa Hunt, General Manager of Technology for IBM’s U.S. Federal Market, described the achievement as a significant expansion of IBM’s government-focused portfolio. The company has quadrupled its FedRAMP-authorized offerings within a year, reflecting increased demand for secure, mission-ready AI solutions.
AWS also emphasized the importance of the collaboration, with Amy Belcher, Director of Worldwide Public Sector ISV Sales, noting that the partnership helps government agencies modernize faster while maintaining high standards of security, compliance, and reliability.
IBM’s watsonx platform includes watsonx.ai for building and deploying AI applications with enterprise-ready foundation models, watsonx.governance to ensure responsible and compliant AI lifecycle management, and watsonx.data, a unified lakehouse for analytics across hybrid cloud environments. It also features DataStage for large-scale data integration and transformation, watsonx.data intelligence for improved data organization and insights, and watsonx Orchestrate to automate workflows using AI-powered assistants and agents.
IBM’s portfolio includes solutions like Verify, which strengthens identity and access management with SSO and multi-factor authentication, Turbonomic, which uses AI to optimize application resources in real time, and Instana, which delivers real-time observability across applications and infrastructure. Concert provides AI-driven insights into application risk, resilience, and compliance, while Maximo Application Suite enhances operational efficiency by managing asset lifecycle and maintenance.
IBM’s long-standing relationship with the U.S. federal government spans more than a century, supporting critical initiatives from early data processing systems to space exploration. This latest FedRAMP milestone builds on that legacy by enabling agencies to adopt AI and automation technologies securely at scale By combining IBM’s AI capabilities with AWS’s secure cloud infrastructure, the collaboration aims to help federal agencies modernize operations, improve decision-making, and enhance mission outcomes while maintaining strict compliance and security standards.
The authorization signals a broader push to bring more AI-powered solutions into compliant government environments. As agencies increasingly look to leverage AI for efficiency and innovation, partnerships like this are expected to play a key role in accelerating adoption while addressing security and regulatory requirements With these 11 solutions now FedRAMP-authorized, IBM is positioning itself as a key provider of secure, enterprise-grade AI tools for the public sector’s next phase of digital transformation.
