As enterprises scale autonomous AI systems, managing identity and trust for AI agents is emerging as a critical challenge across the cybertech ecosystem. Google Cloud has introduced a new Agent Platform within its Gemini Enterprise offering, designed to manage and secure agentic AI workflows at scale. The Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform introduces a novel approach to identity by assigning each AI agent a unique cryptographic identifier, enabling organizations to track, audit, and govern every action performed by autonomous systems. The announcement was made at the Google Cloud Next 26 conference held in Las Vegas from April 22 to April 24.
According to Thomas Kurian, “We’re bringing zero trust verification to every agent and at every orchestration step.” He explained that these agent identities are mapped to defined authorization policies, allowing enterprises to enforce traceable and auditable controls across increasingly complex AI environments.
The Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform addresses a growing concern in cybersecurity: the rise of dynamic non human identities. Unlike traditional service accounts or API keys, AI agents are autonomous and capable of making decisions, interacting with multiple systems, and executing multi step workflows. This introduces new identity risks, as agents can act independently on behalf of users across applications and environments.
To manage this complexity, Google Cloud has introduced an Agent Registry, a centralized library that catalogs all internal agents, tools, and capabilities. Complementing this is the Agent Gateway, a unified dashboard that allows organizations to control agent interactions, enforce policies, and manage connections between agents and external tools. The platform supports emerging standards such as model context protocol and Agent2Agent communication, ensuring interoperability across diverse AI ecosystems.
Security is a core focus of the platform. Google’s Model Armor layer provides built in protection against threats such as prompt injection, sensitive data leakage, and harmful outputs. Francis deSouza emphasized the need for visibility, stating, “When you roll out authorized agents, you want to manage their access control, what they should have access to and that may change over time in a way that’s more dynamic than human identities.”
In addition to identity management, Google Cloud unveiled new security capabilities including Agent Anomaly Detection, which uses statistical models and large language model based evaluation to identify unusual behavior in real time. This works alongside Agent Threat Detection, which monitors for malicious activities such as unauthorized network connections. A new Agent Security dashboard, powered by Security Command Center, provides unified visibility into risks, relationships, and vulnerabilities across cloud environments.
The launch is part of a broader push by Google Cloud into agentic AI and cybersecurity. Recent updates include expanded AI application protection capabilities through Wiz, enhancements to developer security workflows, and the introduction of specialized AI agents for threat hunting and detection engineering. The company also highlighted the performance of its existing AI security tools, noting significant improvements in alert analysis speed and accuracy.
The Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform signals a major shift in how organizations approach identity and security in AI driven environments. By embedding Zero Trust principles into agent orchestration and introducing verifiable identities for autonomous systems, Google Cloud is positioning itself to address one of the most complex challenges in enterprise AI adoption. As AI agents become integral to business operations, platforms that combine identity, governance, and real time protection will be essential for building secure and trustworthy digital ecosystems.
