As organizations rethink how to secure and utilize growing volumes of data, backup systems are evolving from passive storage into active intelligence layers. Cohesity has introduced its new AI powered platform Gaia, designed to unlock insights from backup data while strengthening cyber resilience.
The Cohesity Gaia AI security platform transforms recovery data into a searchable and actionable resource. Announced by CEO Sanjay Poonen, the platform integrates generative AI with backup infrastructure, enabling enterprises to query historical data and derive real time insights using natural language.
Gaia is built on a three layer zero trust architecture. The foundation is a secure landing environment that ensures rapid data recovery in the event of incidents such as ransomware attacks. Above this sits an indexing layer that classifies and manages protected datasets centrally. The top layer provides a user interface where teams can interact with data, run queries, and extract intelligence without needing complex technical workflows.
Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, the platform combines AI analytics with secure storage to create a unified data intelligence system. This partnership reflects a broader industry push to integrate AI capabilities directly into core infrastructure platforms.
A key focus of the Cohesity Gaia AI security platform is resilience in the age of AI driven operations. As AI agents begin to replace human driven processes, organizations face new risks where automated actions can escalate issues within seconds. Poonen emphasized that detection alone is no longer sufficient, highlighting the need for rapid recovery mechanisms.
To address this, Cohesity has introduced an API based automated recovery workflow. The system detects risk signals from AI environments and triggers immediate recovery actions, restoring systems to a trusted state using immutable snapshots. This approach minimizes downtime and reduces the impact of data breaches or operational failures.
The platform also integrates data security posture management capabilities through Cyera technology, enabling continuous monitoring of sensitive data. This ensures that organizations can identify exposure risks and respond quickly, particularly in environments where AI systems interact with critical data.
The Cohesity Gaia AI security platform arrives alongside the company’s recent merger with Veritas, strengthening its position in the global data security market. With reported revenue of 1.7 billion dollars in fiscal 2024, largely driven by recurring revenue, Cohesity is expanding its footprint in regions such as Korea through local partnerships.
The launch underscores a broader shift in cybersecurity strategy, where backup systems are no longer just recovery tools but active components of data intelligence and protection. As AI adoption accelerates, platforms like Gaia will play a crucial role in ensuring that organizations can both leverage and secure their data effectively.
