Californians can now securely store and use their Mobile ID credential from their Samsung Wallet.

IDEMIA Public Security North America has announced the launch of California mobile ID in Samsung Wallet, marking a significant step forward in the adoption of secure, digital identity solutions. The initiative enables California residents to add their mobile driver’s license or state ID directly to Samsung Wallet on supported Samsung Galaxy devices, offering a seamless and secure way to verify identity using a smartphone.

The launch highlights the growing momentum behind mobile-based identity credentials, as governments and technology providers collaborate to deliver more convenient and secure alternatives to physical IDs. By integrating California mobile ID into Samsung Wallet, IDEMIA Public Security North America is expanding access to trusted digital identity while ensuring high standards of privacy and data protection.

A key feature of the solution is its usability at TSA checkpoints at participating airports across the United States, including Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and San Diego International Airport (SAN). This capability allows travelers to verify their identity quickly and securely using their mobile device, streamlining the airport experience while maintaining compliance with security requirements.

Beyond travel, the California mobile ID in Samsung Wallet also supports identity verification at participating businesses and organizations. This extension of use cases reflects the broader shift toward digital identity ecosystems, where credentials can be securely shared across multiple environments without the need for physical documents.

The platform is designed with ease of use in mind. Users can access their mobile ID by tapping their device near a compatible reader or scanning a QR code when prompted. This contactless functionality enhances both convenience and security, reducing reliance on traditional verification methods.

Rob Gardner, CEO of IDEMIA Civil Identity, emphasized the importance of flexibility and user choice in digital identity adoption. He stated that making California mobile ID available in Samsung Wallet allows residents to access their credentials more easily while benefiting from trusted, secure technology integrated into everyday platforms.

The setup process is straightforward, enabling users to add their California driver’s license or state ID through the Samsung Wallet app. By selecting the “Digital IDs” option within the Quick Access tab and following the guided on-screen instructions, users can complete a secure identity verification process in just a few steps.

This launch underscores IDEMIA Public Security North America’s commitment to advancing digital identity innovation and reflects Samsung’s continued investment in secure mobile ecosystems. As digital IDs gain traction, collaborations like this are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of identity verification across travel, commerce, and public services.
