Bitdefender has joined the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) in a move aimed at strengthening global efforts to protect families from increasingly sophisticated online threats fueled by artificial intelligence. The partnership focuses on improving public awareness, education, and intelligence sharing as cyber risks evolve with the rapid growth of generative AI. Both organizations will work together to provide families with practical guidance on navigating digital threats, including scams, identity fraud, and emerging AI-driven attacks.
FOSI Chief Executive Officer Stephen Balkam said the collaboration brings valuable cybersecurity expertise to its mission of making the online world safer for children and families. He emphasized that the growing complexity of digital threats requires deeper technical knowledge and coordinated action.
Recent data highlights the urgency of the issue. A global survey found that one in seven consumers reported falling victim to an online scam within the past year, with younger users disproportionately affected. More than 20% of younger respondents reported incidents, compared to less than 10% among older groups, underscoring how cybercriminals are increasingly targeting younger audiences.
Bitdefender has been actively involved in promoting online safety, particularly for families and children. The company invests in research and awareness programs covering areas such as cyberbullying, identity protection, and safe communication across gaming and social platforms. It recently launched its “They Wear Our Faces” campaign, which raises awareness about deepfake scams and voice cloning attacks. These AI-driven techniques exploit trust and personal relationships, making them especially dangerous for both younger and older users.
Mihaela Paun, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Bitdefender’s Consumer Solutions Group, said the rise of AI has made scams more convincing and harder to detect. She noted that the partnership with FOSI will help families better understand these risks and adopt stronger protection measures.
In addition to awareness efforts, Bitdefender continues to expand its family-focused security offerings, including solutions that provide centralized control over privacy, identity protection, and device security across households. The collaboration reflects a broader industry push to address the growing impact of AI on cybercrime, particularly as attackers leverage advanced technologies to scale and refine their tactics.
