ChargePoint, the market-leading operator of the largest network of electric vehicle charging stations, launched an AI-powered driver assistance tool with a purpose to quicken the pace of diagnosis and repair in the field. This industry-first software is the first in the EV charging marketplace to utilize AI to pinpoint physical charger problems for improved overall uptime and reliability.

But as part of ChargePoint’s station reliability commitment, the software stitches together a user-friendly interface with sophisticated AI technology. If a driver encounters a charging station that isn’t functioning properly, they can simply send photos of the problem through an overhauled “report a problem” feature in the ChargePoint app. It links the problem to the driver’s location, then does an anomaly analysis of the images with a robust dataset trained only on EV charging, and relays the findings to ChargePoint’s Network Operations Center, thus obviating most on-site inspections and considerably reducing repair times.

With AI technology now capable of diagnosing hardware issues, ChargePoint brings a key new capability into our Network Operations Center to maximize station uptime,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “This innovation enables us to quickly triage and resolve physical issues that cannot be detected via remote monitoring, reinforcing our commitment to a reliable charging network.

The drivers can then, in turn, check the status of the repair directly in the app, while their report automatically sends a notification to the owner of the station to hurry up with repairs that usually require an owner’s approval.
